I've always wanted to play guitar. I was eight years old when I first felt attracted to it, but I didn't actually start to play until later, I don't really know why ...I think it's when I saw the AC/DC movie "Let there Be Rock" and I heard Van Halen that I really knew I had to start. At this time, I just tried to play a little bit, but it was like a hobby, you know, playing a few chords and that's it.I became more involved into it when I discovered the instrumental rock and fusion. I remember the first time I listened to "Blue Powder" by Steve Vai, I asked myself "Is this guy playing the same guitar than I do, I mean a piece of wood with some strings on it ???"Since then, I became more "obsessed" with guitar and started to take lessons. I played in a fewbands, tried different styles of music, but I felt I needed to deepen the subject : I then flew to Los Angeles, California and spent one full year studying there at the G.I.T. with great teachers such as Scott Henderson, and Joe Diorio.THANKS TO JUAN-CARLOS HERNANDEZ (www.myspace.com/juancarloshernndez or www.myspace.com/jazzeyedphotographer) FOR THE PICTURES OF THE "JILL YAN AMR GIG" (THE PICTURES WHERE I'M PLAYING WITH A VIGIER GUITAR) AND THANKS TO STEPHANE VUAGNAT FOR THE PICTURES OF THE "RHM GIG" (WHERE I'M PLAYING WITH A STRAT AND WITH A SINGER) !!!I went back home and formed my first band, "Century City", in which we were playing crazy instrumental music, with tunes of an average duration of 8 minutes and including at least 10 different sections per tune (with "of course" different styles inbetween sections). It was really a wonderful experience and the chemistry between band members was incredible. After one demo and some hot gigs, the band stopped. I guess we had reached a point where we all wanted to gain fame and success, and with the type of music we were playing, it was going to be a little difficult...So I formed a new band with a singer (and the same musicians of the former band) and oriented the music into the type of stuff the musical industry believe is good (meaning you could make cash out of it) ... but after a few years pushing it this direction, I realized that I wasn't satisfied with the kind of music I was playing and that the band had lost its spirit and identity, so I quit. After a little time, I naturally went back to what I love...This was when the "Jill Yan Project started"
