About Me

Born in Haverfordwest on 14th February, 1951. Grew up in Weston-super-Mare. Performing musician from the age of two! Play Drums, Keyboards, Guitars, all Brass instruments and Sing. Studied at Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. Have played Pop, Classical and Jazz. I now write and publish music for British style Brass Band and Concert Band.

My Interests

Composed first piece of music when I was six, "Chinese Tune" - loved black notes on piano! Piano teacher sacked me when I was seven - kept adding notes to fill in harmony! Started drums when I was ten, wanted to be pop star, (don't we all?), did some gigs in early teens, when I was introduced to Manns Brown Ale and Woodbine Cigarettes! My school didn't like music, and I didn't like them, so left when I was fifteen, (you could in those days), and went into Army as musician. They didn't want drummer, so I learnt trombone - and rhythm and bass guitar. Still composing at piano and writing pop songs too, was learning how to write them down as well. Left Army band early (nineteen) to go to music college. Started at Royal Manchester College of Music (became Royal Northern) in 1971, major studies - Trombone and Composition. Since then, besides playing, have written and arranged all styles of music professionally. Besides Radio stuff, have some songs on Albums somewhere. Have played brass, bass and drums with groups, one was jazz/rock style, like Blood Sweat and Tears/Chicago, another was Country Rock, influenced by Eagles and Neil Young. Played with "Channel 5", (not the TV station, a jazz band). Have even played opera! Still direct musicals too. Main thing now is Brass Bands and Concert Bands, and my writing and publishing is aimed at them. Mind you, can still do all the other stuff - whatever it is, you only have to ask! The video below is "I'VE GOT YOU UNDER MY SKIN" being sung and performed by ME!!

I find other people interesting, especially if they are interesting people. When my Mother was alive, and living in her home town of Haverfordwest in South West Wales, she ran the “Red Dragon Theatre Group” for children and teenagers. She constantly spoke about a girl who first started when she was at Primary School. My Mother helped her with her acting, singing, and also gave her elocution lessons. This young lady went on to study Performing Arts, and Graduated with a 1st Class Honours. Like many talented people, she attended many auditions, and, in her own words, was always the Bridesmaid, never the Bride. She sat in a London office doing telesales, constantly seeking her opportunity. When Andrew Lloyd Webber decided to run a Saturday Night Show on BBC1, where the public could vote for the young lady to play "Maria" in Lloyd Webbers new West End production of the Sound of Music, this young lady went for auditions, along with six thousand others! My Mother was known as Mrs P, and when she died on 20th September 2004, this young lady phoned my Dad in tears, saying that Mrs P would never see her in the West End. On 16th September, 2006, CONNIE FISHER won "How do you solve a problem like Maria". Next day, she visited my Mother’s grave. She left the flowers she had been wearing on her winning night, and left a note saying that although my Mother would not be there in person, she was sure that her spirit would be in the wings on her opening night.
