the Genes...the story so far
The Genes are Ian Shoreman – Vocals & Guitar, Danny Hayes – Drums & Percussion, Mark 'Shinny' Sinclare – Lead Guitar, Paul Higson – Bass Guitar and hail from Bolton & Manchester ‘Bolchester’ (Clint Boon XFM 2007).
The Genes formed in November 2005 where they met for the first time at DOA studios in Bolton all brought together by Paul Higson!
Ian Shoreman being a singer, Songwriter got the ball rolling with his back catalogue of tunes, and a year down the line The Genes had produced a sound and style they all wanted and a new band was born Playing their first ever gig at Manchester’s Night & Day in September 2006.
From their first gig The Genes got a many gigs from Manchester promoter ‘V- Man Events’ playing venues such as The Roadhouse, Jabez Clegg, Ruby Longe, Dry Bar and Manchester Academy. The Genes have more recently gone on to play Venues up and down the country supporting some big UK bands which include The Futureheads, The Suffrajets (now called The Krak), The Yards (Ex Seahorses), Nick Harper and Bolton’s own Our Fold.
Can 2008 be a good year for The Genes.... To be continued
''Brave, Beautiful and vastly original, The Genes have a skill for producing gentle rousing melodies, littered with Soulful rock 'n' roll edge that is impossible to resist''
Fly Magazine 2006
''The Genes are clearly a band that can achieve the unenviable task of making evocative Indie music, whilst also having the ability to fashion rousing rock 'n' roll tunes without losing their own unique sound'’
City Life 2005
'THE FUTUREHEADS/THE GENES/OUR FOLD'
'Bolton, Soundhouse – Friday 29th June 2007' - Genre: 'Rock'
Our Rating: (9/10) *********
The same goes for THE GENES, who welcomed their families and friends towards the stage before injecting a little Salford swagger into proceedings. Stunning bass playing and a cymbal-happy percussion ethic kept it all together as they jammed out a rolling introduction. It was a change of pace, less frenetic but no less engaging.
Singer Ian Shoreman has a powerful voice, and their 100% sincerity made for a solid set, with songs like ‘Road To Nowhere’ and ‘My Way’ shaping up to be wide melodic rock n’ rollers. I love the way they let gain/distortion hang over the pauses before the middle eights kick in. ‘Do It Again’ featured corrosive lead guitar and another banging bassline, yet more vocal power and a luscious melody.
'Coming Down’ saw Shoreman immerse himself in the music, whilst the lead guitarist had to be cajoled by the drummer into adding his part (“Cooo-o-o-mmme-e-e On-n-n-n-n!!”). Unconcerned, their likeable bass player sparked up a cigarette, and off they went again.
