His music blends styles from a diverse musical background. It is difficult to categorize him as a gospel rapper because his music has something for everyone. You are liable to hear Rock-n-Roll, R&B or straight hardcore Hip-Hop. But let's get down to the nitty-gritty grimy, when we listen to a Hip-Hop artist there is only one thing we want and that's lyrics. This kid definitely has them. His formula allows him to display his devotion to the Lord and his Christian soldier mentality. Ready to go to war for the cause, SHANKS draws on his personal experiences to send a message of hope, strength and redemption for all those going through the struggle. ..ALBUM REVIEWS:.................................................... ............................................................ ......In Russ Shanks latest effort "Underdog" he shows us that the kingdom and hip hop can coincide. Shanks manages to grab our attention showing confidence, without seeming arrogant, unlike his mainstream counterparts. From the beginning he tells us, "it would be nice if I made the A-list / but if im honest I would rather make the judgement day list" Shanks ability to shine, without overshawdowing his subject matter is consistent throughout Underdog. On the title track Shanks expresses his readiness for the radio, but the reality is, mainstream has yet to embrace this genre. Still that doesnt stop Shanks from displaying his skills as an mc, and still delievering his message as a minister. In 'shanks is" , one of my favorite tracks, shanks aggressive style rides a crazy beat, with production to match. With standout tracks like "weapon" , "take it back" and "barbarians" Shanks proves himself as a lyrical force. In "dangerous" ,with a catchy hook that cries radio freindly, Shanks proves hes ready for mainstream. Throughout Underdog Shanks reamains steadfast, showing a clear vision.
