Myspace LayoutsABOUT BROTHER DERRICK:Brother Derrick, also known as THE PROPHETIC VOICE TO THE NATIONS, was born and raised in Louisville, KY the 2nd of 3 children. Despite tragic circumstances that happened in the early years of his life, Derrick knew from an early age he had an awesome DESTINY in Media and Communications. When he was a child, Brother Derrick would watch the NEWS while other kids were watching Cartoons. He remembers discovering his first Radio Station in Louisville, KY at 103 FM. At an early age, Derrick had an intense, unusual interest in the media, from TV to Radio, and even newspapers. This would be the foundation that would propel Brother Derrick into DESTINY. Brother Derrick was also musically inclined as a child, and played the trombone for his marching band. He led solos, and was known as "The Duke Ellington" of his Marching Band all over the nation.Brother Derrick attended Purdue University in 1988, and was divinely connected with his DESTINY in RADIO. At Purdue University, Derrick was the host of "Early Morning Jazz" on the weekends on WBAA AM 920 heard throughout Indiana. He was also the voice of the new Purdue Classical Music station WBAA FM. This is when Brother Derrick became known as "Derrick Dupree." In college, Derrick did a brief stint at "The Buzz" in Lafayette, IN, where he was the Sports Announcer and News Reporter. He was also part of a public affairs program at Purdue called "Soul Plus Magazine." On WILY FM at Purdue University's WILY Hall, Derrick was the General Manager of WILY Radio where all Announcers reported to him and he determined the direction of the campus radio station. Under his leadership, WILY became the most widely listened to campus radio station in school history and created a buzz not just at Purdue, but across the West Lafayette, IN area and all across America. Derrick was the host of the very popular "URBAN BEAT" which featured the best variety of R&B Hits and HIP HOP. This show was one of the pioneering URBAN formatted college radio shows in America. "URBAN BEAT" with MC DLT (Derrick) became the most popular campus radio show in Purdue history.Derrick's spirit, charisma, and charm were well-known in the entertainment industry, and were attributes that enabled him to perform on stage with Janet Jackson on her concert tour (see pictures section).After college, Brother Derrick moved to Indianapolis, IN where he began his TV career. He started at NBC affiliate WTHR Ch.13/ 27 Alive as a Master Control Operator and Technical Director and did a stint at the WB network affiliate where he ran live Indiana Pacers basketball games for the fans throughout Indiana. Derrick was widely known for his quality and excellence in Production services. In Indianapolis, Brother Derrick got his first gig in Gospel Radio at 95.9 WPZZ FM. This is when Derrick changed his name from "Derrick Dupree" to Brother Derrick, a more personal, and Gospel friendly radio name. He wanted his listeners to call him on a first name basis, to represent the friendly, professional, approachable, down-to-earth style Brother Derrick was famous for. Brother Derrick was host of "Joyful Praises," one of the most successful Gospel programs in Gospel Radio History. Folks from near and far would travel to Indianapolis, IN just to hear "Joyful Praises" with Brother Derrick. It was one of the first successful FM Gospel programs in America, done before it's time, a predecessor to formats like Praise 97.5 FM in Atlanta....Brother Derrick is a pioneer in FM Gospel, as his show was one of the first, best and longest running FM Gospel shows. His show was so popular that Gospel artists such as Hezekiah Walker, Rodnie Bryant, and Ricky Dillard would frequently call him to do interviews. While Derrick was in Indianapolis, he also got his first stint in Sports Radio as an AM Sports Anchor for 1260 AM WNDE. He was known as "Derrick Dupree" and was responsible for reporting NBA/Pacers, NFL/Colts and all sports news from ESPN.In 1998, Brother Derrick heard the call of God and moved to ATLANTA, GA to fulfill his DESTINY and God's plan for his life. GOD told him to "go away to a far land to fulfill the assignment that I have called you to, and I will make your name great as you lift me up." In Atlanta, Derrick started working for CNN as a Master Control Technical Director on the TV side, and became a CNN Interational Technical Media Manager. His work has become widely respected and appreciated throughout the industry, enabling him to receive Peabody and Dupont awards for his work on Katrina and the Tsunami.In Radio, Brother Derrick's ministry moved more from a "church" ministry to a "KINGDOM" ministry. God told Brother Derrick to "reach out to the youth and young adults through inspirational music, programming, songs, activities, and events. In 2000, Brother Derrick started at AM 1260 WTJH in East Point/Atlanta, GA, where he became host of the Morning Drive. His popular show "Joyful Praises in the Morning" was very anointed, respected, and widely accepted in Atlanta just like in Indianapolis. In both cities, Brother Derrick received "Greatest Radio Achievement, Favorite On-Air Pesonality" awards from the listeners due to the quality of the programming on "Joyful Praises." In Atlanta, Brother Derrick also did a stint at "Glory 1340" where he worked with Larry Young, Reggie Gaye, Morgan Dukes, Melissa Summers, and many greats in Gospel Radio.In 2001, Brother Derrick aggressively pursued his call to minister to the youth and started focusing his music ministry on Holy Hip Hop, Positive Hip Hop, and Urban Gospel Music. Brother Derrick received an "OUTSTANDING GEORGIA CITIZEN" Award from the then Secretary of State Cathy Cox for his Radio Ministry on 1260 AM.The prophetic gift in Brother Derrick moved in a powerful way around September 11th, 2001. The Friday before September 11th (which was on a Tuesday), Brother Derrick went to his management at 1260 AM and said quote "something BIG is about to happen, and we need a TV in this Radio studio so that we can effectively cover the big news story." 4 days later, Brother Derrick was one of the few Radio Announcers in the world that broke the story of September 11th live on the air as it was happening. It was a day that he would never forget, and would be the turning point in his Radio career that would define the GREATNESS OF HIS DESTINY set before him.A few months later, God called Brother Derrick to higher heights. God told Derrick "I need you to be a LIGHT in dark places." Answering the call of God, Brother Derrick left Gospel Radio, and went to work for a Hip Hop station in Macon, GA called Foxie 107, owned by Mike Roberts, formerly the morning man on V103 in Atlanta. Mike Roberts became Derrick's mentor and would establish and solidify his course and his DESTINY in Radio. At Foxie 107, Derrick was featured on the AM Drive "Russ Parr Morning Show." Derrick was the Morning Show Producer for 4 years and the National Accounts Manager.In 2006, at Megafest in ATLANTA, GA, God had another awesome assignment for Brother Derrick. At Megafest, God literally ordered his steps to AM 1570 "The Light" WIGO, Morrow/Atlanta, GA....www.wigoam.com. Brother Derrick was instantly hired as an Account Executive for WIGO "The Light," the largest, longest running, and most successful NATIONALLY SYNDICATED Gospel Network in the world. God had told Brother Derrick that he would be Nationally Syndicated, and surely the DESTINY IS COMING TO PASS AS WE SPEAK.Brother Derrick ministers to the NATIONS with his program URBAN GOSPEL BEAT with Brother Derrick every Sunday at 1pm est. on www.wigoam.com and AM 1570 ATLANTA, GA, and on Tuesdays at 2pm on AM 1370 Manchester/Columbus, GA.
