Darryl Orr

Saxophonist Darryl Orr has been sharing his passion for music with audiences near and far for the last sixteen years. After discovering his talent in high school, he pursued studies in classical saxophone and harmony at the University of Western Ontario before moving on to the renowned Humber College Jazz Performance program in Toronto, Ontario. During his four years at Humber, Darryl had the opportunity to study with such luminaries as Pat Labarbera and Mike Murley, and was also fortunate enough to share the stage with jazz legends Phil Woods, Dave Holland, Paquito D'Rivera and Don Thompson. Along with a Degree in Jazz Studies, Darryl graduated from Humber with Honours and received a President's Medal for outstanding leadership and academic excellence.These days, Darryl has established himself as a staple in the young and vibrant Toronto scene. He can been found performing regularly at some of the city's top venues, including The Rex Hotel, The Pilot Tavern, Dominion on Queen and Gate 403. His current quartet, (consisting of Richard Whiteman on piano, Brandi Disterheft on bass and Sly Juhas on drums), recently recorded their debut album at the CBC's famous Glenn Gould Studio. This much anticipated release will take place in the Summer/Fall of 2007. Until then, Darryl will continue to offer his unique contribution to the dynamic Toronto jazz community.
