How do you define cool? Ever since the word came into use it has been used and misused to tell us what’s in and what’s out. One thing is for sure- Ali Milner is cool. The 17 year old flaming red head jazz “wonder child†in residence at the Four Seasons Hotel in Whistler B.C. has played in China in front of an audience of 90,000! she released her CD with EMI, it been out for some time and she is now working with Shred Records writing and recording new material with BC.Ali has been playing around BC since the age of nine when she wasn’t blasting down the slopes of Whistler on her skis or mountain bike. After starting to work with Zack Werner (Canadian Idol judge), she came to Toronto to record her first album with producer James Robertson (Esthero, Patricia O’Callaghan, Skye Sweetnam). Together they crafted a sweet jazz vibe that fit with Ali’s remarkable tone- young, fresh attitude meets world-class jazz phrasing. Recorded when Ali was almost 15, the words and music are a vision of romantic jazz as seen through the eyes of a new generation. What’s old is new again as Ali allows us to discover and rediscover the beauty of a pure voice wrapping itself around grooves that recall the birth of cool.From the land that gave us Krall and Buble, Ali Milner is the next step forward in the growth of jazz for the future. She speaks in a language that is both of the moment and timeless. It’s a sound that has never gone away but through Ali can be gifted to listeners of any age. Her live experiences have given her the chance to live jazz and pop in the way it was meant to be learned ..in cool lounges where cocktails tinkle and people mingle. From her performances during the Toronto International Film Festival in 2006 to her weekly gigs at the Four Seasons, Ali has come into her own.
