SMILE BANDAGES.
Vertie Pringle-Reid was born in Sumter, South Carolina the eldest of seven children. Her Mother left the Southern states and moved her family to Newark New Jersey, in the year of 1957.
Vertie being the oldest child adapted to the responsibility of helping her Mother, raise her siblings. She met and married Randolph Reid, whom was the youngest of his sibling, and out of that union they had four children. Being, that she'd already had so much practice in giving direction to her sibling, and others; Vertie had a plan for her husband also. It was not long afterward that Vertie realized that her husband had an agenda of his own. He witnessed to her, telling her that she should learn about Jesus and become a Christian. In 1971 she confessed her sins, accepting Jesus as her lord, and was on a spiritual high ever since.
Thereafter, Vertie's hunger for the Word of God directed and led her to attend Manhattan Bible and Christian Bible Institute. Later becoming licensed as an evangelist in a few ministries; Vertie heard the call from God, and began to foster children with special needs. It was through the Division of Family and Youth services (DYFS) that Vertie's faith was challenged. She also became a sponsor and offered her home for women who were wards of the state from Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD).
She remains active in ministry at her local church, Agape Worship Center, in Plainfield, New Jersey, where she is on the Board of Trustees, is the "Church Mother" and is involved in Nursing Home Ministry. Every 4th Sunday Vertie visits and minister to the elderly at the Woodlands Genesis Eldercare Network, in Plainfield New Jersey. Vertie is so grateful that God used her in the ministry of caring for the children who had special needs.
She can hardly believe that He used her in the ministry of doing something that she enjoyed and then He allowed her to write a book about her experiences. She often laughs with her friends and family, saying that "I didn't even get a high school diploma, and now I am an Author." Vertie have been blessed with four adult children and thirteen grandchildren.
Since, Randy has retired they are committed to continue fostering three special daughters, sent from the Lord. They are surrounded by friends and family, and reside in South Plainfield, New Jersey.
