Anita Maj, daughter of an industrial ghost town, ravaged by poverty and cultural division, raised her sights and her game, picked up her guitar and headed south. In her heart was a desire to put Bradford on the map the way the Beatles had brought international recognition for Liverpool and Oasis for Manchester. She headed to London, not to sell out, but to conquer, showing them the best music did not come from New York or LA but in the dark country, where musical genius had been born in the 60s.
She is an enigma, you wonder where she is from, what she believes, who she is like. The answers are impossible because she really is unique. There are plenty of people in the world who might tick a few boxes for her, just like technically Janis Joplin was a rock chick and the Stones were a boy band, but that means jack. Original, with nothing to measure her against, Anita Maj simply defines a new musical marker.
