I am here for Serious Relationships and Friends

About Me

♀
freak (ˈfrēk) : noun : one that is markedly unusual or abnormal

I don't like the word "blurb." I don't like "blog" either for that matter. They both really blow. I am a bit particular about grammar, but I'm trying to be more flexible about it.

I'm a free spirit; easygoing and down-to-earth. I love learning about people and appreciate the differences among us. I tend to do better with and prefer one-on-one relationships to groups as I crave a certain level of intimacy with others. I keep a few very close friends rather than many superficial ones, so if you are my friend you hold a significant place in my life.

My Interests

Animals, Interior Design, Architecture, Fine Art, Editing, Linguistics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physiology, Psychology, Photography, Wine & Spirits, Geography, Maps and Navigation, Crossword Puzzles, Resistance Training.

Sports I like tend to be more on the extreme side like River Rafting, Surfing (watching it, that is; I can't surf), Surf+Sea Kayaking, Team Outrigger Paddling, Ocean Swimming, Mountain Hiking and Biking. I'm no fun at competitive sports because I'm really not competitive at all — I am just happy for whoever wins.

Love to travel, take road trips and explore places. Some of my favorite places are San Francisco, New York City, Las Vegas, Santa Barbara, Sierra Nevada and Cascade Mountain Ranges and Oregon. When I travel, I often like to visit locales where movies were made.

You know too much about me now.

I'd like to meet:

Genuine, sincere, warm, kind, responsible people of character. Intellectuals. Non-smokers. Generous people who give back as well as take. Communicators who don't play games. The adventurous. Brilliant writers. Other people who are as whacked as I am.

I like learning not only from people similar to myself but from those whose interests are a bit different from mine and those whose intelligence challenges me. I prefer to befriend non-impulsive types willing to grow and learn about themselves and others.

Music:

I don't listen to music as much as I used to but I still enjoy Alternative, Electronica, Industrial, Classic & Hard Rock, Ambient, Blues, Rap. Late '60s & '70s Soul/Rock/Pop, '80s/'90s Alternative. Not a fan of Country music except some from the '50s & '60s. I've dreaded Pop/Top 40 and Country music since the '80s.

I like bands that use a myriad of instruments and have a dedicated horn section...songs that have a dramatic crescendo.... I typically do not like music from violins. Love flutes and harps...they tend to put me into a bit of a trance.

Movies:

Drama, Comedy, Documentary, NO Chick Flicks
Directors Ridley Scott, Gus Van Sant, Mike Nichols, Sofia Coppola, Ang Lee, David Lynch, Stanley Kubrick, Alfred Hitchcock, Paul McGuigan and pretty much anyone out of USC's School of Cinematic Arts.
I try to catch creepy Vincent Price and other older horror movies when they're on TV and also ones from the early days of Jack Nicholson. I usually like a good vigilante movie.
Turner Classic Movies is one of my favorite channels because there are so many older films shown that I have not been exposed to and would normally never hear about. I also like hearing the trivia about certain films that is often explained after a movie airs.
Here's my long list of favorites:

Television:

TV Channels I like most in addition to the broadcast networks are Comedy Central, Travel Channel, Animal Planet, History, Discovery, A&E, TCM, GSN, Biography, Fine Living and Fuel TV.

I try to catch these shows when they are on:

Reno 911!
60 Minutes
The Amazing Race
Friday Night Lights
The Big Bang Theory
America's Most Wanted
Late Night w/Conan O'Brien
The Daily Show w/Jon Stewart
...and all the Sunday night Fox animated shows
PBS:
Frontline
American Experience
Supernatural Science

Books:

Non-fiction and works that have a base in reality that I can relate to, as in those that describe California and the West throughout the decades; works that illustrate the geography of its setting, as in those of John Steinbeck and many of Joan Didion 's writings. The poetry of John Donne .

A few that I've liked:
Freakonomics — Steven Levitt, The Power of Now — Eckhart Tolle, The Anatomy of Motive — John Douglas, Choke — Chuck Palahniuk

I actually read Freakonomics and Choke in their entirety(most unusual for me).

I like pop-up books. Seriously.

Heroes:

I would not call them heroes but among those I admire are Dr. Drew Pinsky , John Walsh , hospice workers and people who protect and care for animals in a society that can often be cruel and careless when it comes to them.
