Police investigate leads in doctor's murder Doctor fatally stabbed in Loop office WLS By Paul Meincke October 26, 2006 - Chicago police are following up on a pair of leads in their search for a suspect in the murder of a Chicago dermatologist. David Cornbleet, 64, was found dead in his Michigan Avenue office Tuesday night. Related Links * Watch the Video The key to solving this murder could be the person who saw a suspicious looking man leaving the Michigan Avenue building Tuesday night. Investigators say a woman, possibly a doctor in the building, was in an elevator around the time of the murder when she spotted a young man, with blood on his face and chest, breathing hard. She told security about what she had seen, but the murder had not yet been reported. Police are reviewing surveillance cameras in the building. They say security cameras in the lobby may have captured the suspect. Cornbleet was a long-time dermatologist as was his father before him. He had been a tenant in the 30 N. Michigan building for 28 years, and from his twelfth floor office, he handled a large patient load by himself. Tuesday night, Cornbleet's family became concerned when they didn't hear from him. Later, Cornbleet's daughter, a Loop attorney, found her father's body in his office. He had been bound and stabbed to death. Dr. Alan Jaffe worked directly across the hall from Cornbleet. He hadn't heard of the murder until he arrived at work Wednesday morning. "He was very nice, gentle kind man. His patients respected him greatly, and I'm dumbfounded," said Jaffe. "He was very pleasant. He said, 'I like to see young doctors succeed, and I'll help you out,' and he did," said Dr. Omeed Memar, dermatologist. Memar, who also works in the building, often referred patients to Cornbleet and vice versa. "I have no words to describe. I really don't. He's here to do good for people, he's a physician. For someone to kill him that heinously, that's just wrong," said Memar. Other people who work in the building are anxious to find out who committed the crime. "You don't know it this was random or not. If it was not random, then how much can security do? They're not inside the suites," said George Reveliotis, works in building. The Cornbleet family issued a written statement Wednesday, saying, "We are all incredibly saddened and shocked by this tragic and horrible loss. Dr. Cornbleet devoted his life to treating patients and improving their lives."
