Chevy Jones. If you dont already know her, theres no doubt that you soon will. She has been blessed with a voice so unique, so powerful that it commands any listeners attention where and whenever it is unleashed. Her range of vocals is a blend of Sweet, Sultry, and Street; qualities that stem from her own true essence. An R&B sensation on the rise to stardom, she is the artist you want to keep your eyes and ears on.Chevy, born Sherrye Player, was born and raised in the Lynwood/ Compton area of Los Angeles, CA. Though her earliest experience as a singer goes back to Roosevelt Elementarys more than 150 member glee club, (where she was, even then, recognized as a star and encouraged to sing lead parts) she credits singing star, Brandy Norwood, as her earliest influence.According to Chevy, Brandys debut CD, Brandy, took her jones for music to a whole other level: I got my first CD, which was Brandy. . . I was like eleven. I burnt out [the single] I Wanna Be Down everyday. Me and my friends would be outside chillin, singing the song, and they would say to me, you really sound good. Ever since then I just tried to stick with it. Ironically, at the age of 14, she met Brandy when hand-picked to become a part of the Norwood Kids Foundation (NKF)an Inglewood based community choir directed by Brandys own father. The NKF benefited her fledgling career by providing her the experience of a real-pro. While traveling and performing shows all over, she learned first hand about the not-so-glamorous part of being a performing artist. Still, it was this valuable experience that gave Chevy a life-changing realization: Oh my God, I can really do this.Following a couple of futile attempts at being part-girl-group, an introduction to producer Dem Jointz (DJ) at the age of 16 landed her in the studio, where she began blessing the underground mixtape scene. It never really got off the ground until I started working with DJ. After honing her craft for some timeexecuting hooks and runs that resonated chill-bumpsshe soon earned a reputable street buzz. Now, at the age of 21, Chevy has come a long way since her days in the glee club. Thanks to her inherent talent, relentless grind, perfectionists work ethic, and a knack for relationship-building, she has become a highly sought-after artist in the West Coast Underground Hip-Hop music scene. Featured on mixtape projects by significant West Coast artists like G. Malone, Bishop Lamont, Kam, Scipio and Problem, she has solidified her role as a frontliner of the New West Movement. And, with the Summer 2005 release of her debut mixtape CD, Beauty and the Beast, (on which she co-headlines with underground rapper, Kila Krock), her sophomore mixtape release, Hollyhood, and a career highlight as a guest artist on rapper Warren Gs newest project, In the Midnite Hour, she has already built a solid foundation for a career surely on its way to being iconic.
