Hi! My name is Steven, I love creating and recording music to expand our consciousness and creating art like these wire wrap gemstone pendants for harmony and well-being.
I play guitar, bass, keyboards, synthesizer, hand drums, percussion and sing; I have been playing for 20 years. The first bands I played in were Jimi Hendrix cover bands back in the 80’s. Then in the 90’s I was solo recording under the artist name “Dharma Project”. Now I have created “Divine Journey Music” and am starting to incorporate other musicians for festival performing and recording.
I have been crystal and mineral mining and wire wrapping gemstones for 10 years.
Peace/Love, it begins with us, take care and enjoy!
Back to the heart, Steven.
Steve Harkey answers questions from a interview with Paste magazine.
1. Hometown - Earth. We are all one global family here. I have been traveling about 7 years, so no single town, to say, although I do like to spend summers in northern California next to the rivers in the national forest and spend my winters Hawaii.
2. Hometown music scene- Music festivals in California and Colorado. The people here are fun, loving, open- minded people that realize their part in being the caretakers of this planet and its people. Where do I fit in? I'm a caretaker of this planet and its people and animals. I'm here to bring a message of positivity, peace and harmony through music.
3. Biggest influence- Jimi Hendrix
4. Tell me about your latest album. What does it sound like? My last CD Rainbow Journey is very eclectic. It has a spiritual, divine theme behind it all. It has some psychedelic, some ambient, some mellow rock, reggae and acoustic guitar. It's all positive music.
5. What common themes run through your songs? A message to live from one's heart, realize our connection to everyone (we are all one family here), a message to create a society that is stress free and violence free, to help out our brothers and sisters everywhere, relax, live with compassion, share your smile freely, have good feelings and live in harmony.
6. Fun Fact-any special talents, odd facts or funny stories about the band? Odd fact... I lived in a tipi in northern California for several years and recorded my first CD there. It was a very beautiful space. I had a stream flowing through my front yard, nature all around!
7. Positive side of live-Is your band involved with any charity or benefit work? Are you spiritual? Do your lyrics display a positive outlook? What inspires you? Are you involved in your community? etc. I am here to help! A portion of the proceeds from my CD go to non-profit organizations that are helping out the planet, its people and animals. Yes, I am very spiritual, that's the theme behind all my music, a divine, spiritual theme. And, yes my lyrics have a positive theme behind them. To me, if it's not positive, it's not worth singing about. What inspires me? People helping- all those caretakers of the planet doing their work, helping the people, the environment, the animals, helping to lessen the suffering all over this planet. People learning the art of living....learning to live with a smile, doing some service work, coming back to their hearts. Am I involved with my community? Yes, everyone is a part of my community - the whole one-world family. Everywhere I go I feel everyone is my family. I find out how can I help, how can I serve...that's the best way to feel good...go out and do some service, help out somewhere…that will open up your heart!
8. How did your band come together? How long have you known each other? I have been a musician for 20 years. I met Lisa a couple of years ago on myspace. She's a great vocalist.
9. What have you been listening to lately? Lately I have been listening to a lot of reggae, Bob Marley, some Indian music by Ravi Shankar. Jimi Hendrix is always a favorite.
10. List band members and instruments they play (including vocals, etc.) I play all the instruments--guitar, bass, keyboard, synthesizer, percussion, hand drums and sing vocals. Lisa Lazo sings vocals on a couple of tracks on my last CD Rainbow Journey.
