Here's a few nice words written about Visart........
Urban Explorer 2006
A Few Of Our Favorite Off-The-Beaten-Track Hot Spots
This video/DVD rental store may win the critics' Best of Charlotte award annually, but considering so many readers still hand the prize to that dying dinosaur Blockbuster every year means not enough Charlotteans are taking advantage of Visart's awesome inventory. From musicals to Italian imports to Spike Lee, no genre, foreign country or filmmaker is ignored. And their selection of alternative cinema rules.

Best Movie Rental Selection
If you've simply got to watch that grade- Z sci-fi cheapie from 1958, that obsecure Italian epic from 1972, or that blockbuster comedy from 1984 right this minute, then you can count on this store carrying 'em all.
Celebrity Pick from Hardin Minor(Charlotte's Mime in Motion)
Hardin picked Visart as the best video store
" Most complete, alternative and unusual selection; not a corporate superfranchise. Funky but accessible labyrinth store layout; awesome community board and film notes; encourages participation; good rates."

Best Video/DVD Selection
Forget stodgy Blockbuster. Visart continues to impress with it's highly eclectic selection of video titles. Where else in town can you find sections devoted to "Russ Meyers", "Sherlock Holmes" and "Norwegian Cinema", to name but three of their countless section headers? As for DVDs, they've made great strides since a year ago, adding plenty of new product and making sure the selectionsare as adventurous here (everything from Haxan, the fascinating 1922 documentary on witchcraft, to the complete set of TV's cult show The Prisoner) as in the video side of the store.

Rental Revelry
Everyone's abuzz about Visart Video, the Triangle-based independent video shop that recently opened aanch in Charlotte, and for good reason-VisArt's new east 7th Street location is a godsend for area movie buffs. Butcan this button-down town sustain a business that places as much importance on Syd Barrett's First Trip or Switchblade Sisters as on mainstream releases? "I guess it's just a matter of wait and see," VisArt Vice President Andrea Kubachko says from the company's Durham headquarters. "But with a city of 1 million people, there's got to be enough nonmainstream fans to support a store like this." VisArt is a true alternative for those parched for something off the beaten Hollywood path. Offerings include Japenese animation, independent documentaries, cult films, classic, silent movies, sports, music, gay and lesbian films, TV sitcoms, classic horror films, and an impressive range of foreign films. Useful and imaginative groupings- "Directors (Andy warhol, Spike Lee, Roger Corman), "godfathers and Desperados", and a full Bruce lee/Jackie Chan kiosk- hint at the store's playful but earnest philosophy. A healthy selection of new releases, mainstream fare, and kids section complete the mix. "we're excited to be here," kubachko says. "reaction has been wonderful."
