The Refuseniks

I just want you to give yourself a chance.

About Me

The Refuseniks.
Not just a band name, but a statement of intent.
We refuse to sit down and watch the world pass us by.
We refuse to sink quietly into the background without attempting to get into your consciousness.
We refuse to be simple voyeurs in life, rather to observe as much as we can and interact in the best way possible.
We hope you will accept our invitation to refuse these things too and join our quest for something better.
We have played gigs in Cork, Dublin, London and Newcastle with The Bluetones, Vincent Vincent and the Villains, Ham Sandwich, Queen Kong, The Bikinis, White Man Kamikaze among others and are always willing to consider offers.
Our yuletide effort ‘Happy Christmas This Time’ was included in the Freakscene ‘Happy Birthday Jesus’ album which was available in shops nationwide. Subsequent radio sessions with Cork University Radio and Red FM raised our profile on Leeside.
We are regular visitors to London and have played at the ICA, Brixton Windmill, The Good Ship in Kilburn, Tommy Flynn’s in Camden and have been guests of Alan McGee at his Death Disco and Queen is Dead clubnights. All the London shows have been to great receptions. John Kennedy at London’s famous Xfm radio station plugged the gigs and played songs on his XPosure programme, while the ICA gig was also listed as one of the Critics’ Choice Gigs of the Day in London’s Time Out magazine. Recently The Guardian newspaper described us as ‘stylish indie-popsters from Cork.”

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Zachery Stephenson (guitar, vocals) Liam O'Shea (lead guitar) John Keating (drums)
Influences: Taste. Smell. Sights. Sounds. Touch.
Being able to appreciate both the noise of a busy street and the quiet of a country lane.
Being able to appreciate both The Fall and Beethoven.
We're influenced by our own (I believe noble) desire to distract people from other more mediocre artists and emulate or surpass artists of genuine quality whom we respect and admire such as Pavement, Kate Bush, Joy Division, Breeders, Blur, Bowie, Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Cole Porter, The Kinks, Lou Reed, The Pogues, Pulp, Sonic Youth, The Strokes.
Now playing: THE REFUSENIKS
Sounds Like: All the artists we like with all the rubbish bits taken out and replaced with some better bits.
Type of Label: None
