I am a saxophone and flute player and have been working as a professional musician for about 15 years now. I was born in York and have lived in London for over ten years. I moved there initially to study in Fine Art, Painting and began performing in venues in and around London after graduating.I entered the "Young Jazz Musician" competition and got runner- up. I also gigged regularly with two of my own bands, a jazz-funk quartet and a "straight ahead" jazz quintet-sextet. In 1995 I worked in a salsa band called "Pachanga" playing weekly in London's night clubs for over four years. I also toured on the LiveMusicNow scheme running workshops and gigging throughout the UK as well as doing gigs at the London Jazz Festival and other large London venues I have also worked alot as a session musician, recording for artists and bands on labels such as Good Looking Records, Black Beard, Nuphonic Records, One Note, Mr. Bongo, Naim and 33 Records. Ive performed at venues and festivals in Colorado, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Chicago and New Orleans as well as cities in Europe, Scandinavia, Russia and the Caribbean. I've always enjoyed performing in larger ensembles and played a lot in swing bands and orchestras in theatre shows. As a sideline to composing contemporary jazz, Ive been commissioned to write scores for film and tv and studied film music composition at Kensington College in 2002. I have my own group which I write for now.Ive recorded two albums called Stretch (2005) and Small Creature (2008)which are for sale on Amazon, 33jazz and jazzcds.co.uk. My quartet currently features Jamil Sheriff on piano,Mark Chandler on Flugelhorn, Jon Thorne on double bass and Laurent Robin on drums.
