About Me

I am a singer/songwriter based in Surrey, UK.My songs come straight from the heart, the flesh, the blood. I don’t care if you don’t think that’s clever, that’s just how it is - I’m afraid there is nothing I can do to change it.I’m not saying that great music isn’t an intricate language full of subtle complexities - but if you prefer music that’s more clever than it is sincere, do yourself a favour and switch channels now. You won’t find any jazz here :PMy debut album ’spit out the pips’ is now available - £10 + P&P from Cookie’s Records or direct from me, just drop me a message :). It’s a bit of a rocker... so hold on to your red heels! Having said that, it’s also interspersed with some more contemplative numbers from piano and hammered dulcimer to string quartet - so be prepared for a bit of diversity too, it’s not all stomp and clap. :)Although most of the songs on my debut album came into existence with the help of my beloved Fender thinline guitar, my piano has been my closest friend since the age of 5. It knows all my secrets. As I also play hammered dulcimer and percussion, you will likely see me do a bit of everything at gigs depending on my mood - well, a gal’s just got to do a bit of everything, hasn’t she? ;-)

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: cookiesrecords.co.uk
Band Members: ooh... almost too many to list here as I work with so many really great musicians, locally and nationally! (and if I forget anyone they might beat me up! ;-))My band are:Zil Wilbermann on drums (also my producer and co-arranger) Jules Manning on BVs Andy C on guitar Kim on bass Barry on keys/percussionOther bands I'm singing with at the moment are my good friends and dirty old rockers New Dogs Old Tricks, a great functions band Famous 5ive, and my foxy 3 x (not XXX you understand!) female vox fronted soul band, Soul'd Out. To add to all this, I have recently agreed to take on lead vocals for Bluefish, a Newbury based functions band with Chris Hook, ex-Voyager bassist.I am also working with my good friend and Cookie's co-signee Jules Manning on her original material (check out theirs and Cookie's Records myspace pages from my friends list - GO BUY HER ALBUM!) and various other little bits here and there... pubs and clubs, festivals, Burlesque cabarets, you name it! ;-)
Influences: Lots! In order of what is making an impression on me at the moment: Killers, Muse, Smashing Pumpkins, Goldfrapp, Bloc Party, Arcade Fire, Maximo Park, Panic! At the Disco, Editors, The Music, We Are Scientists, Band of Horses, Zutons, Rufus Wainwright, The Bravery, Led Zeppelin, Soundgarden, Nine Inch Nails, PJ Harvey, Nick Cave, White Zombie........oh and that cute little "don't let me go" tune off the Citroen advert ;-P (and strangely at the moment, listening to 3 bands I *never* thought I'd like - Scissor Sisters, Coldplay and Snow Patrol...)
Sounds Like: My own material has been compared to Joni Mitchell, Tori Amos, PJ Harvey, KT Tunstall, Led Zeppelin and The Music. Go figure!!My vocal sound I guess is somewhere between Chrissie Hynde and maybe KT Tunstall.. have a listen to my clips of some rough mixes from my upcoming album and you can judge for yourself! :-)
