"It’s all about good times here, as the lead-off track “Livin On Earth” clearly reminds us with the literal optimism as much as the big, catchy guitar lines that will have you humming along immediately and right through the remainder of the EP."
-POPMATTERS.COM
"One of the best EPs we have heard not only in 2007, but we'll go back to 2006 as well."
-NOTLAME.COM
"Songs like "Livin On Earth" and "Your Sister" are powered by big riffs and catchy choruses, and it's easy to be excited about where these guys could go next."
-IHEARTMUSIC.NET
The Holyfields give the people what they want. Their brand of rock includes equal parts sweetness and crunch. Like any good party soundtrack, they specialize in filler-free, instantly memorable tunes. And naturally, they love it loud!
You might find yourself thinking, “This sounds familiar”, but chief songwriter Mike Gennaro doesn’t mind. He’s okay with the fact that their music bears some similarity to great power pop bands like Cheap Trick, OKGO and Weezer. The Holyfields are more concerned with writing great songs than riding the latest fleeting trends. And what songs! From the opening feedback burst of the anthemic "Livin On Earth" to driving pop rockers “Don’t Tell Me” and “Your Sister”, these tunes are destined to stay with you.
Featuring red hot guitarist Scott Stevenson, bassist Kevin “The Clapper” Hilliard (Small Sins) and ace drummer Tobias Smith, the band has been figuratively tearing up Toronto stages over the past year with appearances at the Horseshoe’s weekly Nu Music Night, the Edge 102’s Indie Club and the International Pop Overthrow Festival. They have also rocked the house with such internationally renowned acts as Youth Group, Johnny Dowd and Aqueduct as well as hometown heroes Major Maker, Tin Bangs, Jason Collette and Lullabye Arkestra.
With a self titled EP under their belt, The Holyfields are currently putting the finishing touches on their full length debut. Producer Moe Berg has refined the band’s already tightly focused sound to help create some of the most super charged, hook filled rock’n’roll you’re likely to hear this year!
