They just wear better shoes"
MY WORK...
I am a freelance music photographer and occasional interviewer/reviewer based in Greater London, UK, with a love for rock and heavy metal, gigs and photography.
My first enounter with rock music was at the age of 9 when Alice Coopers ‘Poison’ was at 2 in the Charts. Shortly after that I found my dad’s 8-track tapes of Sabbath and devoured heavy metal ever since.
Most of my high school years were spent listening to Guns n Roses, Sepultura, Machine Head, Motorhead and Pantera.
I went on to study Graphic Design in London. Apart from Typography, a presentation project entitled ‘Obsessed’ is still clear in my mind. Most chicks would typically say chocolate, but I was to do mine on Rock music. Through the lyrical content of Metallica I challenged my class who were originally loathers of metal to listen and appreciate with success.
After managing and photographing a local band in my spare time I found enjoyment from photography. It meant I could join my passions - music and design. I then went on to study photography and digital retouching at the London Academy of Media, Film & TV whilst being a volunteer photographer for various bands and companies.
In 2006 I photographed 88 signed and unsigned bands at 54 events in 8 months, started my own business, became part of the Uxfest Crew and my first published photo was in Metal Hammer.
2007 was an awesome year. With photos featuring in Swedish rock magazine "Denimzine", travelling to Belgium to work with Machine Head, working at Download - Donnington UK, Hellfest - France, Official Rock Sound Stage photographer for Guilfest - UK, Main Stage, 2nd Stage and Signings Tent at Bloodstock Open Air - Derby.
September I joined forces with some awesome rock clothing companies - Ed Stone, Attitude Clothing and Rock Addict getting a cover photo on Attitude Clothing's winter catalogue and 7-page fashion spread for Ed Stone in Tuned Magazine.
Mid-December I started shooting for Terrorizer magazine; my first bookings being for Alice Cooper and Motorhead at Wembley and The Black Crusade.
Here's to 2008!
MY RANDOMNESS... I love leather. Soft real leather; particularly ageing cowboy boots – they're in the fore of my mind as a recent purchase. White ones from a cool vintage shop. I thought about the previous owner and where they walked in them. It’s a funny feeling fitting in someone elses shoes. Last time i wore someones shoes was back in infant school and I got a gnarly verucca from them. They didn’t have “bazuka gel†back then. I hope i don’t get one from these.
I have a plethora of shoes but still manage to find ones that i need to own. Stilettos rule. The higher the better. It’s my aim to be able to walk and dance in them like i would barefoot. I’m sure i was born wearing high heels,at least i like to think so. It helps to think that when you’re only 5’ 3â€. I am quite scary for a vertically challenged person, especially when i'm in heels. No, really.
I love scary films and “boy filmsâ€. Shooty killy type films. Films full of adrenaline. I’m a bit of an adrenaline junkie. I want to own a gun. A big fuck off gun and keep it in a drawer with my pink underwear and be a member of a gun club. Yes. I want to get more tattoos. I want to ride across America on a Harley with the wind in my hair and the sun on my face. Laughing. Avoiding swallowing bugs in the process..and I know i will do all of the above..i am ambitious, not ambiguous, but AMBITIOUS.
Sunny days are the best. I hate winter - I’m sure i suffer from S.A.D. (i know it’s just a bullshit term).. I hate to see people sad. I like to cheer people up, usually by making a twat of myself. But i don’t care. I like people - reading about them and real life stuff. I am busy. I don't like being bored. I like to talk. None of this monosyllabic conversation shit. I could talk for hours. I’ve been told i talk in my sleep, like full-on conversations. I attempted shopping in my sleep once - though i doubt anyone woulda noticed – have you seen how many people go to Tesco/Sainsburys/Asda (delete as applicable) in their PJ’s?! I don’t think i took my purse though so that would be the distinguishing factor.
When i shop awake i seem to always buy noodles. I have almost half a shelf of them. Stir frys are yum. I make stir frys with Jack Daniel’s in, you should try it. Whiskey is my favourite spirit - my drink of choice. Double JD & Diet Coke with ice thankyoumuch. Although recently i’ve been drinking more water. Water sucks so i figure i'd drink it through a straw - I think it tastes better that way. Hmmm.
I can never keep nail varnish on, it always chips - even with top coat (says she typing with day-old chipped red nails proving her point). My hands are cold and the tip of my little finger has just gone numb for no reason. I can't wait until summer.
I’ve just realised i’ve not mentioned music yet. I think my page speaks for itself and if i did go on about music you'd be asleep, i can talk for days about it. I fucking love music. Music is the soundtrack of my life. Yup.
I am taking bookings for live bands, promo shoots, portraits, weddings and other events.
