Being the youngest of four boys, his teen years were lucky enough to have landed at a very special time for music not just in America or Jamaica; these times were very important in the UK too. It was at this particular time that we witnessed the birth of what we look back and now see as UK Dance. Although comparisons may seem blurred rest assured without Loose Ends, Light Of The World, Heatwave etc, I find it hard to see how the unique sound created in the UK today would have manifested. The music played around his house could not have been anymore diverse, from the Motown & Philly his eldest brother played phasing into Burning Spear and Peter Tosh played by his second eldest brother and landing strongly in the UK Lovers Rock played by his third eldest brother. Even the Jim Reeves played by his mother on Sundays has acted as an anchor to that time period filled with vivid musical markers.By the time he had left school he had learned to play the drums and had attempted the saxophone and even though he could never really play the latter, it opened his ears to the ingredients that would in later life help to prepare his distinctive Manifest Flow style of music. His earlier years were spent trying to find his place in life and he tried many options from law school, retail outlets owned by family, building work, promotions, the list goes on.... However, the only constant was his love of music and in between the career changes he always kept in touch with the music scene.As a DJ he spent seven years touring the country with Nasty Rocker Sound System; in the early/mid eighties they were noted for being the pioneers in Rare Groove & Revival and were famous for hosting dances that went on for days and the huge amount of ladies that attended them. As the years moved on, family life evolved with two daughters and with more time at home, for some strange reason he began to write songs and it wasnt long before the need to record them put him into a recording studio paid for with his own money. It wasnt long before he realized that in order for him to hear what he was feeling he would have to take a bigger part in the actual recording process. The large amount of courses and training available today for those wishing to be engineers was not around then, therefore engineering was a bit like carpet laying, you had to know someone who did it; and all training was on site or you had to have large amounts of money to pay the specialist institutions. To get around this, he used any excuse to spend as much time as possible around studios; even posing as a prospective client sitting in on sessions to assess suitability of engineer and sound quality. In truth, he had been running his own studio for two years before going to college and taking his HND in Music Tech. Unfortunately, the realities of running a studio soon came to bear and not being able to compete with the bigger more established studios his studio had to close.Having attended the college of hindsight, it probably was for the best and as a freelance engineer, he managed to work with many of the artists he grew up listening to; and even though he stopped recording his own material he never stopped writing. In 2000, the studio he house engineered at closed down and rather than find work at another studio, he decided to finish several personal projects he started sometime ago the results being:One Nation Tracey Nation, Ambiosis and Sax Lines and more recently Manifest presents Marley J Wills. (check discography below).Manifest believes he is ready to move to the next level not just as an engineer but as a writer and producer in his own in his own right, however you should judge for yourself.
