ROOTSAMALA

En 1990 llegan los hermanos Angelo y Raquel a malaga, desde su ciudad natal Londres.Ese mismo ano comienza a introducir Angelo, la musica reggae en Malaga, pinchando su amplia coleccion de reggae en distintos locales y festivales a lo largo de la costa del sol. Amante del reggae y de la cultura jamaicana Angelo, decide formar su primera banda con el nombre de ITAL ROOTS (1996). Con la que fue premiado por el area de juventud de Malaga, editando asi sus primeros tres trabajos.En 1998, nace un nuevo proyecto con el nombre de AMALA FAMILY BAND, en la cual se incorpora Raquel. Con AMALA FAMILY BAND recorren festivales de musica a lo largo de toda la peninsula, inaugurando algunos como ALDAIA REGGAE FESTIVAL, TARIFA REGGAE FESTIVAL y participando en REGGAE ON THE RIVER (madrid), U-ZONA (torello), BENITAXEL, entre muchos otras, compartiendo cartel con artistas como: MYKAL ROSE, MICHAEL PROPHET, SISTA AISHA, PRINCESS SHARIFA, AL CAMPBELL, PETER HUNNIGALE, YABBY U, HALF PINT....... En 2001 Raquel participa como invitada, cantando en el MAD PROFESSOR DUB SHOW que ofrecio en Malaga.A raiz de todo este rodaje nace ROOTSAMALA. A finales de 2001 graban el tema "JAH ONLY", editado en AFTERSUN TRACKS, con la ayuda de JUANMA AMADOR (bateria) y VICTOR NORLING, gran bajista y productor, a quien ROOTSAMALA siempre estaran agradecidos por su ayuda y apoyo incondicional como musico y amigo. En esta misma etapa ROOTSAMALA introduce a LEROY ONESTONE, cantante de la isla caribena de Granada, en la escena reggae nacional tocando y componiendo para el como backing band. ALMIGHTY DREAD, cantante veterano Jamaicano, con 4 discos editados (en TUFF & GONG studio Jamaica y LION ROOTS U.K.),ofrece la oportunidad a ROOTSAMALA de dar su primera actuacion internacional, en el ROOTS DAY REGGAE FESTIVAL, Brockwell Park, Brixton en 2004, formando banda junto a Jerry Lyons (guitarrra), Ronnie Lion(bajo), Horseman (bateria) y compartiendo cartel con SHANTI-ITES, DUB JUDAH, VIBRONICS, QUEEN OMEGA entre otros.ROOTSAMALA compenetraron imediatamente con ALMIGHTY DREAD y vice versa, convirtiendose ademas en grandes amigos, contagiados por su fuerza e inspiracion llevan muchos a..os trabajando juntos y siempre pensando en nuevos proyectos. BDF (Basque dub foundation) en su gira junto a EARL SIXTEEN, invitaron a cantar varios temas a ROOTSAMALA, en sus actuaciones de CADIZ Y MALAGA. Despues de trabajar juntos en ocasiones anteriores, en 2006, DON CAMPBELL , una de las voces mas destacadas de la escena reggae britanica, vuelve a Malaga para ofrecer un show, con ROOTSAMALA de "backing band" en el "CALA REGGAE FESTIVAL" de Mijas. En el 2006 colaboran en tres temas del nuevo disco del cantante de hip hop "Elphomega",titualdo Homogeddon, del sello Zona Bruta. En el 2007 sacan su primer single 7inch, un doble cara A con el PROMISED LAND riddim original de ASWAD. "DUB FIRE": ADMIRAL TIBETT- "ONE WAY" / ROOTSAMALA-"WHERE U GONNA RUN", con el sello frances "HEARTICAL", producido por Inaki Yarritu (BDF) y mezclado por DUB STUDENT.

ROOTSAMALA (ENGLISH VERSION) Angelo and Raquel, brother and sister, were born and raised in south west London (Battersea), both moved out to Malaga (Spain) in 1990. Ever since then Angelo started to dj in clubs with his selection around the south of Spain and to promote Roots Reggae, gradually building up a Reggae scene.

In 1996 Angelo started to sing, compose and made up his own Reggae band ITAL ROOTS, based in Malaga. In 1998 Angelo created a different band called AMALA FAMILY BAND,( this time with Raquel his sister), and toured around Spain in the most important music festivals, opening shows for Reggae artists such as; MYKAL ROSE, MICHAEL PROPHET, SISTA AISHA, PRINCESS SHARIFA, AL CAMPBELL, PETER HUNIGALE, YABBY U, HALF PINT and many more..

In 2001, both brother and sister decided to make a move and to start a new project with new songs. This same year Raquel was invited on stage by MAD PROFESSOR in his Dub show. This was the begining of ROOTSAMALA. JAH ONLY, was the first track recorded in 2002 and was released in a "various artists cd" called AFTERSUN TRACKS, with a spanish label. That same year ROOTSAMALA linked up with ALMIGHTY DREAD, a Jamaican artist based in Brixton, and introduced him into the Reggae scene in Spain, singing in many festivals together as backing vocals and backing band, promoting his latest record MISION, from Lion Roots label. Together they performed at the Brockwell Park "Roots Reggae" day, with JERRY LYONS (guitar), RONNIE LION (bass), HORSEMAN (drums). In 2004 BDF came to Spain backing EARL 16, and ROOTSAMALA where called up on stage to sing some of their original tracks. In 2006 ROOTSAMALA do the backing vocals for UK´s Reggae artist "DON CAMPBELL" at a Reggae festival in Spain. In 2007 ROOTSAMALA record their first 7" single double Aa side, with french Reggae label HEARTICAL, produced by INAKI YARRITU (BDF) and mixed by DUB STUDENT, on ASWAD´S "THE PROMISED LAND RIDDIM" (DUB FIRE).
