singin´ Maria;
Olle Berggren, 1989;
"According to the local mythology, Maria started her singing career at the agriculture school. Her rasping southern voice interpreted some ol' blues songs a late night in the assembly hall, when the princial entered, found Maria and some whisky bottles. It was "moonshining" on the South Swedish countryside and Maria was convinced (with the head masters approval) to choose the voice before the cows...
Next step was taken when this country girl moved back to the city with a scholarship to sing at the Institute of Jazz in Malmoe, while paying the rent as a freelance journalist. After a while she found herself in a more comfortable surroundings in South Swedens most underestimated band - The Takeaways, power/pop found somewhere between Lone Justice and Blondie. The planned debute album became a demo only and Maria, anxious to put her countryheart to the test a bit more, decided to try her own luck. A cover of "Feel Right" was released by Box Records and gave Maria great reviews by the Swedish music press.
The South Swedish Bibel-belt have finaly given birth to a rock´n roll singer hovering between country, pop and R&B."
