I grew up in a hectic family of seven, most of the time, with headphones on.
Music, for me, created a safe distance from the noise and chaos of living, fed my imagination, and put lumps in my throat.
I remember, being quite young, and quite overwhelmed by the weight of certain melodies, particularly, those of Roy Orbison and Burt Bacharach. My parents also surrounded us in a whole lot of 60's and 70's music, anything from Elvis, to The Stones, to Connie Francis! There was a strong country influence from my Nanna, who sang and played piano, introducing a lot of Hank Williams, Kenny Rogers, Patsy Cline etc... Her approach was very casual, yet very charming.
I've sung my whole life, cutting my teeth up and down the South Coast of NSW performing rock n roll, soul, blues etc, however, didn't start playing guitar until I was 17. Besides learning the basics and exploring the songs I'd always loved, I discovered the thrill in finding beautiful chord progressions that resonate with a melody... I've been writing songs ever since.
I spent time collaborating with other writers, producers and musicians and eventually was introduced to musician/ writer Robbie Woolf. There was definitely a mutual love for songmanship, melody and the unique mystery of records that were made by humans with microphones and tape machines and real instruments, where tempos can shift and human performance is everything. Initially a musical partnership, things soon became a loveship! We have since (3 years later), turned our apartment space into a recording studio and have been working really hard at recording my debut album.
With all the weight of our life experience, musical and non musical, we have commited to creating something moving, something tender and something Human....
