The Basics
The Mill Valley Film Festival is put on by the California Film Institute , based in Mill Valley, California (just north of the Golden Gate Bridge). In addition to the annual festival in October, CFI also runs the beautiful Smith Rafael Film Center in San Rafael, which showcases art house films year round.
About the Festival
Known as a filmmakers festival, the annual Mill Valley Film Festival offers a high-profile, prestigious, non-competitive environment perfect for celebrating the best independent and world cinema.
MVFF traditionally exhibits films from over 40 different countries and every continent. Every year MVFF presents multiple U.S. and World Premieres and has a growing reputation for showcasing new work long before it has achieved national or international acclaim.
Last year's festival showcased over 200 films from 55 countries, and presented Tributes to Academy Award Winner Helen Mirren, Tim Robbins as well as a Spotlight on Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu.
