Trying to talk about politics, New York Times Week in Review section, riding my bike in the Lower East Side, NPR, making out, finishing that screenplay any year now, dancing, WFMU, vinyl, keeping in touch with old friends and garlic.
People who have their boyfriend/girlfriends name tattooed on their neck, people who randomly come up and ask me why I'm so nervous when I'm calmly minding my own business, people who stick up for Ronald Regan, people who use double negatives ("I didn't do nothing!"), people who write in "text message," Sportsmen for Santorum and "liberals" who lock their door when they drive through a "black" neighborhood.
King Tubby, Hard Skins, Ted Leo and The Sword.
Blue Collar, Nashville, MASH, Battle Royale, Last American Virgin, Amelie, Citizen Kane, Match Point, DIG, Casablanca, Annie Hall, Kill Bill and I'm currently going through another Asian kick with cheesy Hong Kong action cop dramas on weekdays and Akira Kurosawa every Saturday --sort of like having desert before the main course. Seven Samurai is in the top five and Ikiru is top ten material. I also had a chance to see Killer of Sheep which was almost as good as everyone said it was --possibly in my top 20. Death Wish 3 is the best movie to watch while you're doing your taxes and I'm going to finish In The Mood for Love one of these days when Netflix doesn't send me a scratched copy.
The Wire. I have no problem watching all four seasons on DVD again if someone asks.
Michael Chabon, Jonathan Lethem, Al Burian, Michael Cunningham, Charles Bukowski, Salam Pax, Haruki Murakami, Joan Didion, Chip Kidd, Neil Gaiman, Nick Hornby, Douglas Adams, and an array of comics. Lately, it's been a lot of The Nation and New Yorker.
