Hi everyone welcome to my page! I hope you enjoy your visit while you are here and learn a little about who I am.
I live in a small town with my husband David. I don't care too much for cities and crowded places. Cities are fun to visit but I wouldn't want to live in one but I wouldn't mind if my town was a bit closer to a large city. I love nature and enjoy being in my backyard and working in my garden, when I get the time which isn't as often as I would like. I am some what introverted but do have a few really good friends who I enjoy being with. I do enjoy meeting new people especially those with similar interests.
I am a visually impaired pencil artist. I create very intricate detailed drawings through a strong magnifying
glass (5 & 10 x) I am registered with the C.N.I.B. (Canadian National Institute for the Blind) as legally blind. I am blind in one eye and have approximately 10% of my vision in the other. I never wanted to associate my visual impairment with my artwork until one day Jeff, the owner of the first gallery where I displayed my work, convinced me to share that information with others. I have had people think that I am using my visual impairment as some sort of gimmick to promote my work. This couldn't be further from the truth. I feel that my work speaks for itself. In sharing information about my visual impairment with others I hope to inspire those who have disabilities to discover and focus on their talents and not on their limitations. Because I have had to deal with a great deal of prejudice and negativity regarding my visual impairment, I hope to educate people who don't have disabilities. I would like to see others become more receptive and understanding towards people with disabilities.
I am Lakota and German. My grandma Christina (Lakota)
lived with us for fifteen years, giving me a lot of
exposure to my Lakota heritage. I grew up going to pow wows, eating traditional Lakota foods, watching grandma
do beadwork and listening to stories about her interesting life and Lakota legends and history. Before my grandma passed away she gave me her Lakota name Opejita Ska Win (White Swallow Woman). In 2003 my mom made me a ribbon dress and I started doing traditional dance. Every year I enjoy dancing at the pow wow held during our annual Blossom Festival. I also make non-traditional beadwork; jewelry, medicine bags and dancing sticks.
My husband David and I designed and maintain my website which has really grown over the years. This is where I display my artwork and beadwork as well as other information about myself. We are in the process of building a shop and gallery space that we hope to have finished next year (2007). This is a very exciting project but will be a great deal of work.
I also adore no worship (LOL) cats both domestic and non-domestic. We have five cats Karmen, Luna, Mandu, Bastet and Shadow. I have devoted a section of my website to my cats for fellow Cat lovers to enjoy called Cat's Where It's At! When I am an old woman it is my goal to be known as "The Crazy Cat Lady!" I want to be that creepy old lady dressed in black with her black cat at her side whose husband, with his long gray hair can be seen hunched over and wandering about his shop muttering to himself while he works on his unusual inventions and creations. People in town would all suspect that I am a witch and on Halloween (my favorite time of year) the local kids would all dare each other to go and knock at my door! That is when they would find out that I REALLY am a witch! LOL (No fears though kiddies for I am a good witch ;-). Al though I have to admit that is one or two people out there who think I am a bad witch bwahahaha!
