I have been singing professionally for 15 years with a variety of bands and recording projects. My first influence is my father who is a jazz musician and taught me to sing standards at age 10. I began performing with him at weddings and such by around 15, and took off from there. I was with a reggae band for three years doing backups for Lynette Shaw, a former flutist for the SF orchestra who knew harmony like no ones business, and taught me well. I had my first original band at 23, a funk/rock band called Not Off Hand that played regularly around Marin County. I continued to do jazz vocals with my own quartet over the years, playing such hotspots as Horizons, 19 Broadway, Black Cat, The No Name, and other local restaraunts and night clubs. At 29 I joined a well known 10 piece swing/rock band called The New Morty Show, as one of two lead vocalists, male and female, doing sort of Louis& Keelie style of duets, as well as covering songs by Metallica and Poison, swing style...see pics and hear samples at www.newmortyshow.com. We performed in Vegas at New York New york, The Orleans, and other casino's for two week gigs. I stayed with them for three wonderful years, recorded two albums at the famous Fantasy Studios, and opened for greats such as Chris Calloway and Reverend Horton Heat...headlined at beautiful venues like Bimbo's SF, and did countless corporates for Apple, Pixar, Lucasfilm...etc. When the swing scene slowed down and my passion for it as well, I noticed the DJ scene in SF was taking over... a blessing and a curse as I loved house music but felt the DJs were taking all the live venues...so I started working doing live performances with DJs, as well as writing original lyrics and music to record with them. Some of the DJ's I have worked with are Michael Anthony; DJ and producer of SF, Laurent C; DJ/producer and co-creator of Final Scratch; Miami, Donovan SF, B Smiley;DJ producer and writing partner in SF, Ian Golden, DJ Dream;DJ and producer, Seven, Sol, and many more.I still enjoy doing that, but am now more and more into my own originals. I have certainly learned how to be a team member and sing everyone elses stuff! Be on the lookout for more of my own stuff on this page, and know that I'm still available for session work, and can sing a mean lead or backup for an existing project or a recording project. Thanks for listening, reading my bio, and checking out my page! Blessings, Cynthia Jeanne (CJ)
