I was born in Kitchener, Ontario in 1981 and I have recently completed my BMus(Composition) degree at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, ON where I studied with Peter Hatch, Glenn Buhr, Linda Catlin Smith and Richard Windeyer
My musical interests span the entire gamut, but my two main things are creating electronic music of various types and improvising (either on cello, or electronics or both).
My electronic music has appeared at the Open Ears Festival in Kitchener, the Kitchener Waterloo Symphony's New Orchestra series, NUMUS inc's concert, and at the 20th Anniversary of the Maison-de-culture NDG in Montreal. I recently placed in the top ten in the Canada-wide Jeux de Temps/ Times Play 2004 competition through the Canadian Electroacoustic Community. "(lovesong for) white invincible" appeared on the CEC's JTTP compilation offshoot: Cache 2004.
On the improvisational front, I have played in various groups including a cello quartet with Matt Brubeck, Anne Bourne, and Kevin Fox, and a group ...And His Orchestra with Kyle Brenders, Brandon Valdivia, Kevin Saltarelli, and Ilana Waniuk. I have also shared the stage with Frank Gratkowski, Lori Freedman, Paul Dutton, Damo Suzuki, Ryan Driver and others.
I currently play in a trio called I Have Eaten The City with Colin Fisher (sax/ guitar) and Brandon Valdivia (drums). I play cello and computer in that group and stylistically it encompasses ambient, noise, free-jazz, experimental rock and other diverse musics.
I am also playing cello with Toronto dark/ slow/ quiet indie rock band Picastro right now.I also have a keen interest in interdisciplinary art. I have recently finished an installation which has appeared at the KW Art Gallery with K-W based artist Isabella Stefanescu. I have also collaborated with the MT Space--a multicultural theatre collective which builds its pieces organically through improvisation in sound, movement and narrative. I have previously contributed commissioned music to theatre projects with Isinglass Theatre, the University of Waterloo Drama Department, and Theatre & Company in Kitchener.
In addition to my more electroacoustic-based work, I also make more poppy stuff under the alias Piège, for which I also have a Myspace: www.myspace.com/piege
I also now have an album available from Soundscapes (572 College St. Toronto), Encore Records (54 Queen St. S, Kitchener, ON) and Orange Monkey (5 Princess St. W, Waterloo, ON). The album contains 12 pieces and is over 70 minutes. It comes in unique handmade packaging with hand-bleached black fabric, and a sanded, numbered case.
