Profile GeneratorSo there's this cat that I kindof randomly met through a mutual friend, this guy Dez. It was a number of months ago, maybe almost half down last year. Anyway, I think the first time we met was at this club called the Good Hurt, over in Venice. The Atma was playing a show and we got introduced to him. Now Dez is a great guy and it was nice to meet him there, but that story has nothing to do with the whole point of this, so skip that...
...And go to the part where I got to see Dez play, right before my band at USC. See, on Dez's myspace, I heard him rappin' there was some guitar playin', and some hip-hop loops backing it all up. But Dez doesn't do that live. He gets up on stage with an acoustic guitar and the mic, and he starts it off like a singer/songwriter would. But he does this thing that nobody else I see does. He's got this little box, it loops whatever sound comes through it in real time. So Dez gets up on the mike and starts beatboxing, "Buugh--bu-Cha---ba-Bu-bu-Cha" and he's now backed by this beatboxed hip-hop groove running through the PA, and you're thinkin' to yourself, 'okay, that's pretty tight.' And then he gets the music going, he'll loop his guitar too if he wants, or play it straight up. The lyrics to what he sings and raps though, that's really what made this all a big deal to me. See, when I was watching him play, I was already pulled in by what he was doing musically, but when I heard him speak, I was convinced that Dez has got a reason to be on that stage, because he's communicating a music and an idea that is worth hearing. I'm not going to go look up his lyrics and write something down that's already written. All I'm saying is that I'm really down with Dez Hope because alot of people get up on that stage and do what has been done before, their own blend of convention and predictibility, and they sing about things that don't really matter. Dez does something unique, and a lot of his ideas have weight, and wether you like it or you don't, you're still going to stop and listen, and watch. And it's inspiring to me as a musician to see somebody doing their own thing, and doing it well. And I swear Dez didn't put me up to this!
Anyway, stop wasting your time reading this crap, go listen.Www.myspace.com/dezhope"
