Caution... Dangerous Curves Ahead...

About Me

READ THIS FIRST!!!!!!!! I ONLY ADD FRIENDS THAT ARE INVOLVED WITH MIDDLE EASTERN DANCE/MUSIC/ART OR OTHER RELATED FIELDS OF INTEREST!!!! STARTING FEBRUARY 2ND I WILL NOT ADD YOU UNLESS YOU SEND ME A MESSAGE WITH YOUR FRIEND REQUEST. PERIOD!!!I get so many unnecassary friend requests. Although they have lightened up since I started putting scary messages like this one on my profile, my new policy is that I will only add people that send me a friend request as well as a message. Please understand that I get about 20 requests per day and I'm only on here a few times a month. It sucks up all my time to use myspace just filtering through friend requests, 80% of which are bogus/spam/perverts/idiots.I will NOT under any circumstances add you unless you are involved somehow with Belly dance as an art form, other related arts, or I know you already. If your profile does not have evidence of this or is set to private, please briefly explain your involvement in the email. I can't tell who you are unless I can see your profile. Otherwise I will delete your friend request.I also do not need any wanna-be, supposedly-14-year-old, actually 10, punk/gansta loosers OR 98-year-old, pin-up collecting perverts sending requests. Give it up. Get a real life with some dignity and respect for the fact that I am here to promote my art/business. Note that you are NOT under "who I'd like to meet" and I am not "here for" your libido. There are plenty of profiles on here that are. I am not one of them.I also request that people keep messages to me appropriate. Belly Dance is not stripping, vulgar, or sexual. It is not an invitation for explicit or suggestive comments. I am not interested in meeting people for the purpose of dating. I put this profile up to stay in contact with friends out of town and to share knowledge and love of Middle Eastern dance.------------------------------------------------------ --- What can I say (other than the rant above), I'm a belly dancer. I teach it, I perform it, I love it, I breathe it, I watch it until my contacts shimmy and I still want more. I prefer Egyptian/Lebanese Music, the real, classical kind as well as the more modern stuff though I've taken a new interest in Turkish traditional/folkloric dancing. I'm not so big on the 85% naked girls with no talent that show up on turkish talk shows. I take it very seriously because I think it is an art that is in danger of loosing its true charms which are intelligence, maturity, grace, control, and most importantly, musicality.I also salsa dance with my husband, love to learn other languages, and read about various religions. I recently started taking South Classical Indian dance knownw as Bharatnatyam (sp?) with Monica Cooley at the Vanderbilt dance Program. Ahe is AMAZING! I have a website you can visit which is www.lindabellydance.com for classes, performances, etc.

My Interests

Belly dance, Salsa dance, Indian dance, Persian dance, swing dance, and... well... lot's of dancing. Also hiking, swimming, and anything to do with the beach.

I'd like to meet:

PLEASE READ THE "READ THIS FIRST" SECTION IN "ABOUT ME"I would love to meet other belly dancers, especially if they live in Tennessee. If anyone has questions about Belly Dance in general,I am more than willing to respond. But if you want info on my classes, etc then go to my website listed in the nex couple of paragraphs. If you play really good soul music or world fusion stuff then send a request and message so I can hear it. Other than that it's mid-east all the way for my music on here.My students are of course welcome to be on my friends list. :)If you want to get a great overview of what Belly Dance is actually about, I encourage you to visit www.shira.net She has a great website with lots of history and culture information. Also I have a website up. Visit www.lindabellydance.com when you get a chance to see what is new in Nashville's belly dance community. If you have questions about my classes or performances it is all on my website so read that first before asking me about it here.

Music:

I like almost every kind of music to an extent. But let's face it, I like it best when I can move to it. Favorites are: Oum Kalthoum (of course), Sulieman Warwar, Shreen, Hakim, Amr Diab, Hossam Ramzy, Oojami, Nancy Ajram, Haife Wehebe, and Tarkan.

Movies:

1.) Sappy old musicals 2.) Modern versions of sappy old musicals 3.) Belly dance clips from sappy, old, Arabic musicals 4.) Anything funny, moving, or beautiful 5.) And of course lots of Belly Dancing performances

Television:

Will & Grace, Designing women, the Golden Girls, History chanel, Discovery Chanel, Arts network (yes I actually watch it), that 70's show, Family Guy, Futurama (hey, I have to cut loose somewhere), and by default, because I married a Mexican Man, Univision! Lot's and lot's of Univision novelas... Also, my new weakness: America's Next Top Model. Yes, I know, it's really entertaining while simultaneously evil and addictive.

Books:

Lots of books about Belly dancing, things about identity and religion (very interesting), history, and Historical fiction. I'm also a stepmom of a 5 year old. If you are a stepmom you must red "The single Girl's guide to MArrying a Man, his kids, and his ex-wife". Even if you weren't single when you got married or didn't even get married, if you have any kind of step relationship with a minor (or adult child) you really need to read this ASAP.

Heroes:

Of course every pioneering belly dancer, my parents, my sisters, and my best friend Jessica and her mom; Anna and Matt, my Husband Ricardo, and the man who made my marriage happen: Carey James. The real heroes are the people that take responsibility for their life and live it well. No excuses. No regrets. Only love and adventure.
