Here are some of my favorite sites that have proved to be invaluable resources to me: Tribe.net
I have just recently joined Tribe.net and have found a wealth of information, much of which comes from many of you here on MySpace...If you're a member, please look me up!******************** Shira.net
OrientalDancer.net
JoyofBellyDancing.com
These sites have everything, from FAQs, myths and histories, tips and hints, chat and forums, and online shopping.********************
EgyptianAcademy.com
Website of The Egyptian Academy of Oriental Dance in Manhattan, home of Master Choreographer/Instructor Yousry Sharif, and Award-Winning Dancer/Entrepreneur Nourhan Sharif.******************** VisionaryDance.com
BellyDanceSuperstars.com
These websites are primarily for dancers' supplies and clothing, as well as lists of upcoming events such as shows and week-long intensives around the world.******************** Jareeda.com
"...Jareeda has the largest known readership of any Middle Eastern journal published in the United States..." Also has links to other sites.***********************************Here is some of the beautiful belly-dance-related artwork I found along the way. Some are from the Internet, some from books, and some from many of you. A heartfelt "Thank You" goes out to all who have either allowed me permission to borrow from their sites, or sent them as comments.
Well, since Mata Hari
(did she really do it?!)
and "Little Egypt" (so misrepresented)
are out of the question, let's move on to the here and now.I would love to meet other dancers, musicians, artists and anyone else with an interest in the art of belly dance. Whether it is traditional or contemporary makes no difference, as I am interested in all different styles of the dance and music. My all time favorites are too many to list, as I find new and amazing dancers every day, but some of my idols are:
Marina Darowish, Viktoriya, Suhaila, Aubre, Delilah (of Visionary Dance), Ansuya Rathor, Rachel Brice, Kami Liddle, Tempest and Nourhan Sharif, just to name a few...The same is true of musicians with whom I would love to work. I would love to have the opportunity to dance to the live music of Carvin Knowles (Keter Ehyar), Corvus Corax (Urmawi, Filli Neidhardi), Mario Kirlis (Zaar al Kabir), Oojami (U n Me), Naked Rhythyms (Babylon), Djinn (Brooklyn Baladi, Electric Brain Play), Raquy and the Cavemen (Caravan, Sandansko) and compositions by both Issam Houshan and Solace that are too numerous to mention. ************************************************************
