Ras Igel

THE LONG AWAITED ALBUM WAS WORTH THE WAIT

About Me

Humble Lion from Zion...Ras Igel. Ras Igel was born Tyrone Richardson in Westmoreland, Jamaica. As a child growing up in a tight-knit community, he recognized the power of music to unite people. He started writing and perfoming at an early age, with many people recognizing the youth's ability to touch people with the truth in his lyrics. By age 14, Ras Igel started to see himself as a person with a message, and he was determined to use music as his medium. At age 17 Ras Igel moved to Philadelphia where he continued his spiritual and musical growth. As one of the DJ's for Soul Imperial, he studied the trends in both dancehall and roots reggae. Meanwhile, he perfected his own sound and his style. In 1999, after being in Atlanta for 3 years, Ras Igel opened for Bucaneer as well as the Annual Atlanta Sunsplash and was awarded the title "Best Male Artist of the Year" at the Atlanta Caribbean Awards. Since then, he has graced the stage for Sizzla, Capelton, Anthony B, Luciano, Beres Hammond, Turbulence, Sean Paul, Mega Bantan and many more. Confident in his ability to command the attention of a stageshow audience, Ras Igel focused his efforts on perfecting his talent as a producer and artist. He overstood that though his lyrics carried a strong message, only the right melody could complete the cypher. As he would say, "Keep striving towards the ultimate goal and use as many vehicles as possible to get you there...give yourself options." Ras Igel's first singles, King of Kings and Long Live the King, were released in Europe in 2001. He as also been featured on some of the most popular mix CD's storming through the Caribbean. Currently Ras Igel is working on his Black Moses album which includes hits like Black Woman, So High, and The Trod. In summer 2006, Ras Igel will be hitting the stage with well known Reggae artists Turbulence, Gyptian, and Frisco Kid. You can see the flyers for those shows by clicking on "My Pics." Enjoy your visit and don't forget to keep your eyes open for "Black Moses, " in stores now.
