Drawing on influences ranging from Brazilian Sambas, Afro Cuban Son, and European Nu-jazz, to the more familiar sounds of American Funk and Soul music, AudioKinetic uses these elements to arrive at a place of soulful vocal and lyrical content, thought provoking compositions, and deep, driving dance grooves with an international flair.
The Portland, OR based group is fronted primarily by Jarrod Lawson (keyboards/vocals) and Libby Roach (guitar/vocals; Fractal Quintet), with Joshua Cliburn (tenor sax/vocals; Porterhouse, Silky), and a strong rhythmic foundation provided by the rhythm section of Dallas Huber (electric bass; Grooveyard) and Whityn Owen (drums; Rubberneck, Silky).
While their influences are easily recognized, AudioKinetics overall sound defies categorization. Having been compared to such artists as Jamiroquai, Bjork, Return to Forever, and Dangelo to name a few, the result is a sound that audiences can connect with on a musical, intellectual, and spiritual level, often too rarely seen in todays world of manufactured music and media.
AudioKinetic has met with wide audience appeal at such Portland, OR venues as Jimmy Maks, the Goodfoot Lounge, and more recently, at the Aladdin Theater where they had the opportunity to open for the legendary Average White Band, playing to a packed house and receiving an uproarious reception from the audience.
