Joey Porter

About Me

Joey was born in Nashville, TN in 1972. He moved to Portland, OR in 1994. Playing in the latin-funk band Rubberneck from 95-99, Joey recorded 2 albums and toured the entire US for the first time. After leaving Rubberneck he played in the hip-hop bands the Five Fingers Of Funk and Phat Sidy Smokehouse from 99-01, again touring extensively. Joey started to write his own music and finding his own voice, so he started Porterhouse Quartet in 1999. Porterhouse was mostly intstrumental funk/jazz/fusion music composed by Joey. Porterhouse recorded 2 albums of original music on the Lauan record label from Boulder, CO. Joey Porter Trio, featuring Reinhardt Melz on drums, became the newest project as Joey started to get more into playing jazz and stopped touring as much. Moving to Boulder meant abandoning Porterhouse and starting new projects. Joey’s new electronic dance project "Juno What?!" has been playing venues like the Fox Theater in Boulder. The group is a trio consisting of drummer Dave Watts and Dominic Lalli on sax (both from the Motet). They incorporate pre-recorded tracks with live performance using the computer program Ableton Live. Their shameless dance music is driven by synth bass lines and late 70’s and early 80’s-inspired dance beats. Joey has shared the stage with such acts as Parliament Funkadelic, John Scofield, Tower of Power, Maceo Parker, String Cheese Incident, Govt Mule, Steve Miller Band, STS9, The Slip, etc.
