South Central Kentucky's Mothership of Rock

About Me

What is now known as D-93 started out as a Z-Rock station back in the early 80's. Once a week the U.S. Mail delivered a stack of 10-inch reels that were loaded onto the automation equipment and some of the eras loudest and heaviest hard rock emanated from 804 College Street. A few years later the automation was gone and the beginnings of your full service rock and roll radio station kicked in. A trip to Record Bar in Greenwood Mall snagged $500 worth of start up rock. An all new air staff was hired including one Bryan Locke, a new van was purchased (painted black, of course), swag was printed up and given out, and away we went on the high road of rock and roll. It was during these early days that we introduced Home Cookin'. Home Cookin', one of South Central Kentucky's first local music showcases, debuted in June of 1988. On thru 1992, D-93 was a collection of backstage passes, big packages of rock in each days mail, and walk in surprise visits from some of the biggest names in rock. In 1992 we entered a dark period. The rise of contemporary country music caused higher-ups to move us from a successful rock station to a country station. D-93 was known as The Duck during this period. However, due to the popularity of another local country station, the Duck was never able to float. The people of South Central Kentucky wanted their rock and they missed the Mighty 93; so in 1998 the beast rose from the Earth again. In the early 2000's, D-93 veterans Diamond Darrell and Bryan Locke along with the addition of Tommy Starr, and Rockin' Ronda helped get the station back to full force. Also, during this time, we added lots of great new original programming to our roster such as: Blastin' Fast & Loud, The Lowdown Hoedown, Dead Air, Soul Frequency, and the return of Home Cookin'. D93 is an independently owned radio station not susceptible to trends or fads. It is a listener driven radio station. Though our station does have a base structure of Classic Rock, the employees of D-93 are also big music fans just like our listeners and we sometimes play music from our own collections to add to what we already spin. We're not a cookie cutter station; we set the bar. Many stations have come and gone and many WILL come and go but D-93 remains strong due to the dedication of our employees, the loyalty of our listeners and the power of rock and roll. D-93 was/is/always will be South Central Kentucky's Mothership of Rock!
