I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

Born in Peru, Indiana in 1967. I've lived in Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Guam. Traveling is a love of mine and I've been fortunate enough to visit Jamaica, Canada, Germany, France, Switzerland, Hawaii, and 27 other of our United States. Saw Kiss on TV in 1976 and it's been rock and roll ever since. My first concert was Van Halen at Mississippi Gulf Coast Coliseum in 1982 on the Diver Down tour. I've attended well over 500 concerts. I have a vast collection of over 5000 c.d.s, albums, 45's, and tapes from established artists and nearly 500 discs from many great local artists that I utilize for my programs on WDNS in Bowling Green, Ky. In 1994, I started Crank It on the campus of Western Kentucky University at WWHR. Crank It was the first heavy metal programming in the area and the beginning of a tradition that continues today. Also at WWHR, I hosted The Electric Circus, The Murderous Metal Roadshow, and teamed with Eddie Rush to co-host Damage Inc. I've reported to Album Network, R & R, FMQB, and College Music Journal. In 1996, I began work at WBLG/WBGN in Bowling Green; working mostly in production and afternoon programming. Memphis came next in 1999, where I worked at WMFS 92.9. There I produced The Howard Stern Show, helped run the promotions department, and worked closely with many major label and independent artists on various projects. Aqua-Net Theatre was the name of my metal show while in Memphis - along with Locals Only (my introduction to working with local acts). In 2002, I moved back to Bowling Green and to my current home - WDNS 93.3. I do a hard rock/heavy metal show on Saturday nights and a local music show on Sunday nights (Blastin' Fast and Loud and Home Cookin'). Both shows have been going strong for over 6 years now and are currently the longest running programs of their kind in our area. I've interviewed 100's of national and international artists - as well as many of South Central Kentucky's finest in local music. I've co-hosted on hard rock radio programs while visiting Strasburg, France in 2001; and again on another station in Montreal, Canada in 2002. In 2005, I was asked to act as a consultant for our local ABC affiliate's ongoing feature on local music. This segment ran for 6 months and featured many great artists from South Central Kentucky. Also in 2005, Print Mafia and I started working together to produce collectible posters for special editions of Blastin' and Home Cookin'; some of which have and will be given away on air. In early 2006, I released, with the help of The Great Escape and Print Mafia, Tracks from the Trunk: Screams and Dreams of the Bowling Green music scene. A 34 track - 2 disc cd set consisting of 30 years of local music from the Bowling Green area. This marked the first release on my start up home grown label - B.G. Roxx Records and Tapes. In 2006, I began working with local libraries to get local artist's music on the shelves. My hopes are to do what I can to get as much interest generated as possible for local artists. Also in 2006, the premiere of American Nightmare Radio with Jim and Smitty. ANR is a way for me to play some of my favorite punk/hardcore tunes. In 2008, past editions of Home Cookin' began broadcasting via South Central Kentucky's entertainment leader, The Amplifier's website. Check out The Amplifier's website in my friends. Industry/Major and local artists send your music to be considered for Blastin' Fast and Loud and Home Cookin' to: Tommy Starr - WDNS - 804 College St. - Bowling Green, Ky. 42101
