About Me

I'm Brad. A real person with real tastes and interests. Not everyone likes them. Some find this offensive, cause for disillusionment, unplastic, fodder for critique. Sorry folks, don't need it. Won't respond. But for those who actually want to know me as I am...
I'm an author and teacher with a faith community called Fresh Wind, based in Abbotsford, BC. I have a wife, Eden, and three sons.
I like to learn and write and teach about such topics as "listening prayer" (tuning into God's voice) and social justice ( www.clarion-journal.ca) .
I've written some books:
Can You Hear Me?
Children, Can You Hear Me?
Fear No Evil
Kissing the Leper
Rivers from Eden (with my wife)
Shades: Nuancing Listening Prayer (with Sean Davidson)
Have a peak by clicking on the cover to the left.
I'm sorting out the point of my life: Something about love and hearing Jesus in the now and heeding the Jesus of the Gospels...
Have a peak at my real blog, "the God who speaks".

My Interests

Reading, writing, hiking the North Cascades (esp. the lookouts), coffee at Ethical Addictions Coffee House, crosswords, travel.

I'd like to meet:

Jesus. Not the prozac church-Jesus projections that everyone hates (and probably should). The actual one.

And anyone else who colours far enough outside the lines to get crucified.

Here's a keeper - Jason Upton absolutely nails it here. Glad for a God who has come down to the next-to-me-place.

Music:

Lately: CHRIS JANZEN and Old Mare, WCB (Stephen Jersak's band), You Say Party, Karin Dart, Yuca, PSALM 91, Cockburn, U2, Greenday, BNL, Supertramp, Queen, Indigo Girls, REM and some other bands that offend "praise muzak" junkies.

Here's a prophetic warning by Johnny Cash... only he could get away with it.

Movies:

EXPELLED is an upcoming documentary screen-written by my friend, Kevin Miller. Coming this Feb.

I like:
Most dystopia... Blade Runner, 5th Element, 12 Monkeys, et al.

Twists that fool me... e.g. Fight Club.

Hitchcock flicks starring Jimmy Stewart.

Television:

Battlestar Galactica, the Colbert Report, Seinfeld.

Books:

The book closest to my heart came from my own circle of friends: Kissing the Leper: Seeing Jesus in the Least of These.

The prophets: Isaiah et al.
Epic series: Dune, Dark Tower, Lord of the Rings.
Stephen King (it's not all horror), Douglas Coupland, Umberto Eco.
Old mystics: e.g. Julian of Norwich, Brother Lawrence, Teresa of Avila, John of the Cross.
Theology: Eugene Peterson, N.T. Wright, Ron S. Dart, Miroslav Volf.

Heroes:

People who prefer the cave to the stage.

My Blog

The God Who Speaks

I do a monthly blog called "the God who speaks." You can access it directly at:www.http://the-god-who-speaks.blogspot.com/It's meant to offer things I've been leaning about tuning in to God's voice......
