Yaron Stavi -A Jazz, Classical, World Music and Rock musician.Double Bass and Bass Guitar Player.Born in Tel Aviv, April 6th 1975.As a child Yaron has played the violin for few years and then went on playing the Guitar. First he played and studied the Classical Guitar and then moved to the Electric Guitar playing Rock and through to Jazz when he finally took the Bass Guitar and the Double Bass.Yaron studied the Double Bass in Israel with Eli Magen, a member of The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and a Jazz musician. He played in The Young Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under conductors as Zubin Mehta, Kurt Masur, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Yuri Temirkanov, Kent Nagano and others. He played in concerts and festivals in Europe and Israel.Between the ages of 17 to 21 Yaron was playing intensively in the Israeli Jazz and Rock scene. He was playing with various singers and productions, recordings, TV shows etc. In 1993 he met Gilad Atzmon and joined him in the bands Spiel and Spiel Acid Jazz. Together they recorded albums and toured around the country. With Spiel and other Jazz bands Yaron has played regularly in The Red Sea Jazz Festival, Tel Aviv Jazz Festival, Israel Festival and more.At the age of 21 Yaron has left Israel and move to live in Berlin, Germany. He studied in The Berlin Academy of Arts with Prof. Rainer Zepperitz, former principal Bass player of The Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. He has played in several orchestras and chamber groups playing Classical music as well as playing Jazz in different bands. He was the principal Double Bass player of The Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and The Jeunesses Musicales World Orchestra in which he played under Seiji Ozawa, Pierre Boulez, Marris Jansons, Ivan Fischer, Franz Welser-Most, Sir Neville Mariner and more. He has played with orchestras in Europe including The Budapest Festival Orchestra, Gran Canaria Symphony Orchestra, I Fiaminghi Chamber Orchestra and more. He played in Europe and North America. He participated in The Lucerne Festival, Salzburg Festival, Berlin Festival and many more.In 2002 Yaron moved to live in London, UK. He joined his long time friend Gilad Atzmon as a member of The Orient House Ensemble. The band tour and play intensively in the UK and Europe. Their CD, Exile, on which Yaron is playing, has won The BBC Award for Best CD of the year 2003. The band was nominated again for the BBC Jazz Award for Best Band of the year 2004. In autumn 2004 the band released their 4th CD on Enja Records - musiK - Rearranging The 20th Century. The band plays in Festivals, concert halls, Jazz Clubs and venues all around Europe. They played in London Jazz Festival, Brecon Jazz Festival, Appleby Jazz Festival, Barbican Hall London, Queen Elizabeth Hall London, Berlin Jazz Festival, Leipzig Jazz Festival, Lausanne Jazz Festival, Pizza Express Jazz Club London Soho and many more.Yaron plays in other Jazz bands from the UK. He has played with Peter King, Julian Siegel, John Ethridge, Pete Oxley, Estelle Kokot, Gene Calderazzo, Stephen Keogh and more.In 2003 Yaron has played on Robert Wyatt’s latest CD Cuckooland.Since a meeting in a festival in Switzerland in 1997 Yaron plays occasionally with the world famous violinist Nigel Kennedy. He played with him in Berlin Jazz Club Quasimodo as a member of the Nigel Kennedy Jazz Group and in Festivals in the UK.In 2003 Yaron recorded on 2 CD’s for John Zorn’s label Tzadik with Koby Israelite.He has played on Phil Manzanera’s (Roxy Music) CD’s 6PM, Vozero and 50 Minutes Later, among musicians as David Gilmour, Robert Wyatt, Brian Eno, Chrisie Hynde and others.In early 2005 Yaron has recorded on David Gilmour’s new album.
