Aisha is a fiddler from Florida. She started playing violin when she was 8 years old and started fiddling soon after. Aisha grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee and studied violin at the Cadek Conservatory with Roberta Figgins and then attended The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where she earned a Bachelors of Arts in Music. She travelled around the U.S. and in Ireland and then moved to Asheville, North Carolina. There she taught at several music schools and helped run The Grey Eagle Music Hall for many years. She started several Irish jam sessions in Black Mountain and Asheville, North Carolina and played regularly with guitarist and master luthier Tom Fellenbaum. She moved to Florida in 2000 and has continued to teach, perform and record. She also plays mandolin, guitar, tenor banjo, 5-string banjo, banjolin, and a few other instruments. She has recorded cd's with different musicians and bands and has played with many artists. A few of her past bands include Hush the Cat, Banish Misfortune, Immigrants' Daughter, Aidan, The Honey Farmers, Dog Island Sound, and Aisha and the Gypsy Flairs. She has studied with several famous fiddlers including Mark O'Connor, Crystal Plohman, Eileen Ivers, Bonnie Rideout, Seamus Connolly, James Kelly, and Brian Conway. She has performed live in concert several times with James McMurtry and his band and with Truckstop Honeymoon - Mike West and Katie Euliss. She plays lots of styles from classical to celtic to bluegrass to old-time to scandinavian to gypsy to arabic to greek to jazz and she also composes original music. In addition to teaching classical violin and celtic fiddle styles, she performs at festivals and special events around the southeast. Aisha plays classical violin for weddings, mostly on the beach in Florida - St. George Island and surrounding areas. She has recorded 5 CD's of her music and has played as a session player on many other artists' CD's as well. In addition, she has written three books of fiddle music -one for kids and two that go along with her CD's. She recently won the Southeast U.S. Scottish Fiddle Championship for the third year in a row!
