A good entertainment lawyer isn't THAT hard to find (is it?)....

About Me

WELCOME! Mind Your Light Entertainment (MYLE) is a legal services company focused on providing counsel to those in the entertainment industry. In the latter part of 2005, after having previously worked as in-house counsel at major record labels for over 5 years, I decided to go "artist side". In a matter of months, I found myself working with clients outside of the music industry. While obtaining clients around the world, I have been able to expand the business by creating a "consortium" of attorneys around the world. With a global clientele, it became increasingly important to establish contacts in different cities to help build contacts with venues, other artists, producers, etc. MYLE has partnered with attorneys in Europe, Canada, Japan and South America. MYLE's current client list includes recording artists, screenwriters, TV/film/music producers, actors, stand-up comedians, music/film/tv production companies as well as indie labels. MYLE provides transactional services, drafting and negotiating all entertainment-related agreements as well as providing "project management" services (short & long term). I've always wanted to work with people that I believe in. It's not about having "clients", but being a teammate on YOUR team. I'm looking to work with artists (if you create SOMETHING, in my eyes you're an "artist") who are SERIOUS about their goals - who have passion about their craft and their direction as well as a work ethic that can only be rivaled by my own. If you have the ability to think outside the box and are willing to work hard just to be seen or heard, then let's talk. Maybe I can help. If your goals are solely about obtaining the fancy car or the hottest bling, then please move on. If you're a recording artist, know that I am truly interested in the music; I've been a front-row spectator to the games of the big bad labels - now I'm armed to help. No matter what stage of the game you're at, it's most important for YOU, the artist, to realize that not all artists and lawyers and/or managers are meant to work together - make sure you "fit" with your team. If someone is trying to talk YOU into something that your gut is telling YOU doesn't feel right - don't walk away...RUN AWAY! Building a good team is key, no matter what your role is in the entertainment industry. Know who is supposed to be doing what - take the time to educate yourself. And please: don't hand over the reins to your life, your craft, your BUSINESS to anyone. And lastly... never let anyone sign your checks but YOU (if Oprah can live by that credo, so can the rest of us.)As I don't have the opportunity to check this page on a regular basis (daily maintainence is handled by my assistant or intern), ALL SERIOUS INQUIRIES/E-MAILS SHOULD BE DIRECTED TO: [email protected] I will respond to all inquiries.Thank you for stopping by and reaching out. My Interests

MUSIC!! Going to live music venues (living in NYC affords me those opportunities in great abundance, otherwise I'd lose my mind!) I'm a voracious reader as well (will wander the stacks at The Strand for hours on end!) I enjoy laughing - attending comedy shows (first real stand-up I saw was Eddie Murphy on his Delirious tour in 1983!) And, living in NY wouldn't be complete without experiencing the theater - Broadway, off-B'way, off-off-B'way. Love "Shakespeare in the Park" - wonderful expereince. Avid sports fan (especially basketball). Movies - almost anything, including foreign films, but I'm not a big sci fi fan. And, lastly, being on or near the water keeps me at peace - scuba diving is my favorite escape. Now if someone could invent an underwater iPod, I would be in heaven!

I'd like to meet:

The good people in the business - I know you're out there! You live, eat and breathe your work as do I. In regards to musicians - singers, bands, etc. - I have a particular appreciation for the live craft. Anyone can do it in a studio; it's the live performance aspect that cannot be duplicated.

Music:

I can appreciate all types of music, although there are certain types of music (extremes) that I cannot listen to for hours on end, but I will listen to anything at least once. I grew up exposed to reggae, classical, R&B, rock (that classic 80s rock!), latin/salsa, soca, pop, punk rock, etc. Having worked at a major label, I was exposed to EVERYTHING e.g. celtic, opera, classical, rap, hip-hop, R&B, pop, rock, instrumental, etc. But, here's what's currently on my iPod (in no particular order): Donny Hathaway, Rahsaan Patterson, Sam Cooke, Jazzyfatnastees (if you don't know, NOW you KNOW!), Jarvis Church (due to bad business decisions, the majority of the world may never hear his solo LP, but check out Philosopher Kings to get a taste - they're hot!), Roberta Flack, Me'Shell Ndegeocello, Cassandra Wilson, Jonathan Butler (a fantastic South African guitarist/singer-songwriter), Eric Benet, Zap Mama, Queen, Jon B., Mint Condition, Luther, SWV, Olu (does anyone know where this brother is?!), Jill Scott, Ledisi, Gipsy Kings, Marc Anthony, Al Jarreau (see him live; don't walk - RUN!), The Gap Band, Commodores, Soul of John Black, Raul Midon, Lonnie Liston Smith, the Mighty Sparrow, David Rudder, Rick Springfield (don't go there!), Alicia Keys, Maxwell, Kem, Earth, Wind & Fire, U2, Simply Red, Leah Andreone, Arrested Development, Billie Holiday, Will Downing, Aerosmith, Nick Rolfe, Grover Washington Jr., Javier, Rolling Stones, Al Green, Kindred Family Soul, Mary J., Jay Z, Diane Schuur, Billy Joel, Gil Scott-Heron, Amp Fiddler, Heather Headley, Andy Stochansky, Jamiroquai, Elton John, Miriam Makeba, Jimmy Cliff, Tony Bennett, Ben Harper, Celia Cruz, Sy Smith, John Legend (another must-see live), Jessye Norman, Donnie, Melissa Etheridge, Melky Sedeck, Maxi Priest, Lizz Wright, Angelique Kidjo, Chayanne, Nina Simone, Norah Jones, Hezekiah Walker, Lionel Hampton, Chaka...Chaka....Chaka Khan, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Outkast, LTD, Etta James, Tribe Called Quest, The Cardigans, Bon Jovi, Rupee, Dave Matthews Band, Denyce Graves, Lena Horne, Lisa Stansfield, Allison Hinds, Blondie, Justin Timberlake, Genesis, Take 6, Foo Fighters, Gloria Estefan (the spanish LPs), George Benson, Velvet Revolver, De La Soul, Tito Puente (thank goodness I had several opportunities to experience him live), Lenny Kravitz (other than Prince and Rahsaan Patterson, he's the only other artist I have found myself traveling the world to see - always worth it!), Anthony Hamilton, Diana Ross (one of many Oscar robs for "Lady Sings the Blues"), Boy George, Sade, Alex Bugnon (brownie points if you know who he is), Grenique, Hall & Oates, Ruben Blades, Donnie McClurkin, The Roots, Common, Erykah Badu, Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, Guy, Cheryl Lynn, Alexander O'Neal (damn, I'm old school!), Santana, great gospel choirs, various Soca tunes and the almighty BOB MARLEY and PRINCE....OH, and Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy and my custom mix of Chris Tucker sound bites (hey - I DID say that I LOVE to LAUGH!!) I collect soundtracks b/c there's always an eclectic of music on them. Two of my favorites are "Best Man" (Maxwell - track 11 is DA BOMB!) and "Disappearing Acts" (check it out - rock, soul, rap, R&B. It's hot!) And, I've recently re-discovered the soundtrack to "Brown Suger" and Baz Luhrman's "Romeo & Juliet" - HOT!

Movies:

Godfather I & II, Like Water for Chocolate, Eat Drink Man Woman, The Wizard of Oz, Lady Sings the Blues, Eddie Murphy "Raw", any movie w/ Denzel, Don Cheadle, or Jeffrey Wright (he and Mos Def KILLED it on B'way in "Top Dog, Under Dog"!) Crash, Open Water (thanks to this movie I now consider myself a FORMER scuba diver!), any movie by Hitchcock, although my favorite may be "Stranger on a Train". I know there are many more, but these are the ones that came to mind off the top of my head.

Television:

Cold Case, CSI Miami, Without a Trace, Law & Order (in any incarnation), Court TV (yes - I see the pattern, thank you very much!) ;-) ....... Soul Food on Showtime ended too soon for me. I've been a bit nostalgic lately so I've been watching great repeats of the Cosby Show and can't get enough of "Frasier" - thank goodness for syndication! And when I can't sleep, watching "I Love Lucy" on DVD is always a good laugh. And thank goodness for Sleuth TV - Miami Vice lives on!!! And my Sunday morning ritual: Meet the Press! (Tim Russert is the man!)

Books:

Any book written by Alice Walker, "In Cold Blood" by Truman Capote, "Black Boy" by Richard Wright, "To Kill a Mockingbird", "The Invisible Man", anything by Shakespeare, James Baldwin. Again, these are just off the top of my head. I have such a vast collection of books, I wouldn't know where to begin - I just know that I LOVE to read; going through a true crime & biography phase right now.

Heroes:

My parents, my seventh grade English teacher - Ken Austin, Sojourner Truth, Alice Walker, Romare Bearden, Lena Horne and my 9th grade English teacher, Mr. Haulenbeek, for introducing me to Shakespeare and, moreover, turning me into a lifelong fan.
