I am a solo mandolinist at this point mostly due to the fact I live in a small town and finding people to work with is a near impossible thing. I played bass in the 90's, but playing chord solo on a 7 string bass I started to develop carpel tunnel. In 2001 when I heard the mandolin in a new light on Nickel Creeks first album I decided to start thinking about switching to the mandolin. I started playing the mandolin in 2003, and ever since then the mandolin has been nothing short of an obsession. I recorded my first mandolin album From Melancholy in 2004 after less than a year of working hard at learning the mandolin. I recorded my second album Wandering the High Wires in 2005. Currently I'm working on an all solo mandolin album (the first 2 had overdubs of a second mandolin on some songs). At this point I'm an independent artist so I'm just trying to do everything I can to survive with just my music. I wrote and self published a mandolin instructional book Scales and Modes for the Mandolin. Available in PDF for $8.00
