I am Shotgun Honeymoon. But I am known as different things in different places. Some people call me phil, others shotgun, mellgren or even just Eric. At 17, I picked up a guitar and taught myself how to play. It all started with an unexpected shove. It was in college and i was entered into a talent contest by a believer and a friend. At the time I would have never had the balls to enter myself. I felt like it was time to write something that could actually bring to life emtions that i dont normally talk about.
So I had three weeks and the next thing you know, I had a song. And i performed it.
After that, I left college and I moved back home. When ALL situations changed, it drove me to keep writing and playing and playing and writing. That first song i wrote was called The Beginning of The End, the foreshadowing of a particular event in my life. But what i couldnt predict is how much music would impact me to this day.
My songs quickly began to shape themselves. I moved to Miami, where I played in bars as well as festivals all over the area. Soon I hooked up with a college friend and under the moniker of Stoic we played all sorts of gigs.
Orlando was good for a while, but I soon got the itch for the West Coast. Making my way to Los Angeles with only my car and guitar, I landed on a friends couch and started to write again. Within a few days I was cranking out my best material yet. Within three months I was playing shows at places such as The Gig, Highland Grounds and The Mint. I now call Los Angeles my permanent home. My shows have grown, and my music has gone from rehashing covers to personal stories of triumph, tribulations and yes, of course, love.
As my career climbs, I will always remember sitting on a stage in a smoky college bar with nothing but my guitar for protection. I opened myself up to the world and to my astonishment, 300 strangers listenedand loved it. Just the chance to write something I hear and feel, not give a shit about who likes it and who doesnt is the best feeling in the world. Even better than that... is when people stop what they are thinking...then stop what theyre doing... and get lost in your world as well as you can portray it with a little melody and some unforgiving poetry.
And now youre at the end of this biography... and youre still here. why??? Are you bored...Are you intrigued...I wont ever know. But those are the same questions i ask myself everytime im on stage and i look into the crowd. But my answer is always thank you...thank you for getting this far...
