Axel discovered techno only in late '95 in London when he first moved to the capital. It was mainly acid techno at the beginning. Listening to Chris Liberator gave Mark Axel the input that took him to start performing.
He drove his interest on minimal techno about 2 years after the start of his mixing carrier and today his style is a mixture of minimal/acid/uplifting/techno. He also likes classical music, jazz and rock, no wonder why you can find some of this in the music he plays, making the set sound always unusual.
3 Years ago his friend Fabrizio ( DJ Fabry ) asked him to organize a techno night for the "Italian Job" (monthly event in London). It was a wicked time with the most acclaimed UK djs like Liberator crew and D.A.V.E. the drummer.
During that time he went back and forward from Italy and other places in Europe, where he had important contacts. It was the time that Mark Axel wasn't release yet, but he managed to play in Italy, Czech Republic and Spain. In Valencia he played in front of a massive crowd of 3000 people (free party). 2003 saw him flying to Portugal for the Loony techno festival with Dj Zebedee, Carl, Rob Stow and Ronaldo.
He is still very close to some of his italian producer friends like Andrea Guccini and Impulse Factory, He really wish, one day,to bring some of the UK tunes to Italy.
On the early 2002, he created with his closest friends, Mirko and Fabsid , the M.F.M. Sound and that was just the beginning of something that he always dreamed of.
2004 has been the busiest year for him, promoting Chemical Warfare and working on his tunes. After been in Spain for the 3th years in a row Mark has just relased a wicked record on APEX with his friend Chris liberator and D.A.V.E. the drummer. more production is going to be out at the end of 2004.
There is a debate raging under the seemingly calm surface of electronic music that threatens to rage for sometime. Does techno need to look good? Some artists go to great lengths to make a show go with their audio, desperate not to look like some geek hiding behind turntables.
Mark Axel isnt desperate. He doesnt need to worry about this particular techno storm because when you see him play youre looking at authenticity itself. Thats what its about? Really being there, really listening. When you see him stand tall, riding the mixer, looking straight out to the crowd hes with, you know hes loving those bouncing beats that slam in your face chugging along and along for an eternity. Mark Axels got a sense of time and awareness of sound that brings life to anything with a kick drum.
This affinity with the audience hasnt just made Mark Axel a fascinating DJ, it has seen him become the fastest growing promoter on the London Techno scene. Every 2 months, Brixtons Mass club welcomes MFM Sound, a unique balance of world-class techno and down to earth people who are there for one thing only, to enjoy the music! Forget glow sticks - MFMs inclusive vibe has hit the capital at just the right time.
This all-nighter attracts a discerning crowd bored with the impersonal, bland alternatives on offer elsewhere. The formula has proved so popular Axel is to launch EVOLUTION in May 2007. An event that promises be an intimate, high calibre techno gatheringChris Liberator, Mark Axel and D.A.V.E. get together and blend their styles to come up with 2 furious techno tracks. The a-side is a groover with a long build and a psychotic vocal sample in the middle. The b concentrates on an italian influenced groove with a great drop. Again road-tested to full effect.
