Phil McGinity

A band all on his own!

About Me

I started may musical life with some classical training, mixed that with some pretty hot jazz and then got into that strange, often missperceived world of folky-acousticy-rootsy music. In that arena I sing, play guitar, digital piano, whistles and clarinet, but not usually at the same time! I have three musical lives; solo performer/singer-songwriter, a member of the awesome 'Reckless Elbow', and a member of more laid-back 'The Miv Cameron Band'. Those three take me gigging around the England Scotland and Wales from the smallest rooms at folk clubs to the big stages at theatres and festivals. Links to the two bands are available from my website. See you there!

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: philmcginity.co.uk
Band Members: Phil McGinity - me, a guitar and maybe a piano;Reckless Elbow- Phil McGinity, Bob Brand, Paul 'Corki' Corcoran, John Edwards, Mike Penny, Jo Pue;The Miv Cameron Band - Phil McGinity, Miv Cameron, Phil Chisnall and Kev Hughes.
Influences: Well that's a hard one. J.S. Bach, John Martyn, Richard Thompson, Cecil Sharp, Miles Davis, Jake Thackray, Kristina Olsen, Whippersnapper, Claude Debussy, Christy Moore, to name but a tiny few.
Sounds Like: Hey - I pride myself in the fact that you can't begin to pigeon-hole my own songs - take a listen, buy the CD from my personal site. It's very varied. One of my great influences is the late, great Jake Thackray and when I do his songs I'm told I sound quite like him. The band stuff is pretty hard to catogorise. Reckless Elbow is a bit like the Saw Doctors crossed with Christy Moore and Fairport Convention; The Miv Cameron Band is like Clannad crossed with Dougie MacLeane and a 70's prog-rock band at their most surreal. Work that one out!
