About Me

WINNER OF THE BBC JAZZ AWARD FOR RISING STAR 2006!
Music Critics Guide to Rising Stars of 2006: **** Andrew McCormack - Most impressive. Compositions show a simple, direct and accessible way with themes. Dips into atmospheric Keith Jarrett-ish territory, skittery M-Base rhythms and pretty hymnal melodies with a fierce harmonic intelligence. TIMEOUT
Set to become a dynamic force on the young UK jazz scene. A quietly clever, but remarkably accessible release. BLUE & SOUL
**** Another star emerges on this discerning UK label. An impressive representation of modern, tough and rigorous UK jazz. An intrepid pianist on the Herbie side of contemporary. Not a note is wasted. Excitement and economy in hypnotising balance. MOJO
One of the most exciting talents on the UK jazz scene. His debut album, Telescope, does not disappoint. Ultimately this is an album where you do not have to hit the skip button. STRAIGHT NO CHASER
*** Part of the Dune stable of edgy young players, McCormack sweeps to the front of the pack with his debut as leader. His debut recording has a cerebral kick to it but its more than just a brain busting rush. Veers from Debussy-like solo piano, through sweetly exquisite gospel balladry, to lopsided classical themes over an understated break beat. JAZZWISE
**** Swings hard, with a spiky, rhythmically adventurous punch to his playing whilst the beautiful miniature of Invention is as soft and sensitive as one could wish for. This album will more than do. INDEPENDENT ON SUNDAY
As capable of arranging a deft horn-riffing backdrop for a market-driven novelty artist as he is of delivering a classic Herbie Hancockish acoustic improvisation. Telescope launches that highly personal window on the new world of 21st-century piano-trio music. THE GUARDIAN GUIDE
**** A mature and intelligent approach. He integrates a diverse range of styles, from classic swing through to thoroughly contemporary, ensuring this is a multi-faceted but carefully focussed introduction to his self-composed music. THE SCOTSMAN
*** The album shows their mastery of grooves that also swing. McCormack shows great potential for harmonic and compositional innovation. THE GUARDIAN
Represents a fascinating meeting point between piano-trio jazz, sharp-end classical music, and current urban sounds. A step up toward the power UK keyboard force McCormack has long promised to be. JAZZ UK
McCormack's new CD, Telescope is well worth the wait. JAZZWISE
