About Me

Cult of the Blues are Angus and Tui Gillies. Tui sings backing vocals and her Tongan tapa art and painting often feature on this site (orders welcomed). We have a baby boy called Pele (after Angus's favourite childhood football star) and Angus also has a 13 year old son, Rogie, from a previous marriage. Angus has been a journalist for 22 years, with the last 14 in TV, mostly with TV3. As well as making music, he likes to write and play soccer. He's had a novella, The Lizard Song published, as well as three sports biographies: Take No Prisoners (rugby league star Matthew Ridge), Justin Marshall (All Black) and The Wicked Keeper (cricketer Adam Parore). He also helped his dad Iain and his elder brother John write a local history book called Cook - the County and its People. He's just published Footsteps of Fire, Volume 1 of a three volume non-fiction series of books called Ngati Dread. It's about the Ruatoria Rastafarians, who went on a five-year burning rampage in their town. If you want to get an idea of what it's about, you can check out the prologue, which is included on this site as a previous blog. Then, if you want to buy a copy of the book, you can order it by pushing the Add To Cart button.NGATI DREAD Angus grew up in a small isolated sunny East Coast town of 30,000 called Gisborne: a brilliant place to grow up like a wild weed. He loves that place and he loves going back there. It's one of God's little pockets of South Pacific paradise. These days he lives in Auckland, by far the biggest city in New Zealand.
