GRIDIRON RECORDS........
With a fierce determination, an unrelenting work ethic and an ear to the streets comes new powerhouse independent record label, Gridiron Records. Formed by Ex-Snot/Soulfly guitarist Mikey Doling and long time friend Kyle Turley (Kansas City Chief and longtime music fan), the duo put together a team of people including Tim Pickett (formerly of EMI Music) and Max Harris."There are so many great bands out there that are amazing, but if you're not the trend of the week you don't have a chance of getting a record deal," says Doling. "I was getting frustrated seeing all these great bands without a record deal and I asked Kyle to start up a label with me and here we are. We're going full force and we're signing good bands with serious talent, devoid of trends."
The first three records to be released from the label are psychedelic rockers The Hairbrain Scheme, hard rockers Unset, and Doling's own Invitro, a new project he put together with ex-members of Los Angeles based The Wizards. All three artists will release their debut album through the label in 2007.
Invitro (who’s debut album was released on September 11th) has already toured extensively throughout the US this year, with Sevendust. Static-X, and HellYeah!. With their tin-foil stage antics and high energy driven performances, Invitro has been tearing up stages and creating a huge fan base nationwide, all of which helped them land a spot on the Family Values Tour this summer featuring Korn and Evanesence.
The Hairbrain Scheme has a unique flair for bizarre stage theatrics and morbidly delicious musical experimentation. Incorporating elements of new wave, jazz, hardcore, and classic rock into a cohesive new flavor of pop rock that features heavy use of keyboards and bass guitar, the HBS has consistently demonstrated broad appeal and a strong ability to turn skeptics into admirers. The band has played some of the West Coast's top venues and has earned opening gigs for a broad range of major acts that includes The Walkmen, Ima Robot, Busta Rhymes, Deadsy, RJD2, Damien Marley, and Mickey Avalon.
Since their first show in March of 2006, Unset has been creating a huge buzz in Southern California. Their music and live performances has gained the respect of fans and musicians alike. Unset has had the privilege of playing shows with well known acts such as: Invitro, Adema, Hed(pe), Silent Civilian (Ex-Spineshank), The Dreaming (Ex-Stabbing Westward), Sprung Monkey, Mower, and The Accident Experiment (Ex-P.O.D.). Unset's first official 4 song release was produced in May of 2006 by Invitro’s Mikey Doling and engineered by Invitro’s Brad Dujmovich in Hollywood, CA.
Gridiron Records is determined to unleash untapped talent to the forefront of the music industry and attempt to conquer the corporate pop/rock culture that is the music industry today.
"Our goal is to create a label that is artist-driven and releases great records regardless of what's currently selling in the industry,†says Turley.
