Tales of the 9 Worldes
Dedicated to Norse Mythology.
B ifrost
B ridge.
S ometimes called the Rainbow Bridge; Bifrost Bridge is the gateway between Midgard and Asgard, the mortal and immortal worlds. The Bridge Guardian is Heimdall, who dwells in the Great Hall of Himinbjorg .
As the legend tells, Heimdall can hear the softest and quietist sounds. And, he is possessed of extraordinary sight. Ever vigilant, he maintains a sleepless sentential guarding against invading *Giants. And, will signal the coming of Ragnarök, by blowing the great horn Gjallarhorn (aka. Ringing Horn). ~ * Jotunn (or Jotun /pronounced yoten).
In art, Bifrost Bridge is often represented as a rainbow, with a colossal Heimdall standing on the Bridge. Other depictions have Heimdall holding court in Himinbjorg. And, occasionally the beginning of Ragnarök (Fate of the Gods and/or Final Battle) is illustrated.
There is no consensus of those that might dwell in Bifrost. However, elves, fairies and unicorns are long associated with rainbows. And, certainly happiness, health, prosperity and love are characteristically linked to this beautiful iconic talisman.
As with previous art from Tales of the 9 Worldes, Viking warriors appear in the background. A constant theme of Norse culture reminds us of: obligation to self, family, community and state. Also, strongly emphasized is the relationship between Midgard and Asgard. Things to remember are the virtues of vigilance and responsibility.
