Ela’s voice is like the dawn breaking; innocent, beautiful and radiating warmth. Her songs have a raw honesty, “I love writing, but I am so nervous every time I go into a session. It's all about opening yourself up to someone you've (a lot of the times) never met before. You want to contribute, but have to overcome the insecurities and just feel the flow.” she explains.
A citizen of Europe, Ela speaks her mind fluently in 4 different languages. Her journey began in Zurich where she was born. “My parents were from Croatia but moved to Switzerland before I was born. We always retained our Croatian roots though and my early experiences of music were my parents playing traditional Dalmatian music. It’s very different to the music I love making, but I guess the free spirit and melancholic undertones can be heard in my writing today”. There is nothing conventional about Ela. Her early musical experiences have helped her create a magical sound. She continues, “When I speak to girls who grew up listening to their parents’ records by artists such as Marvin Gaye, Etta James and so on, I used to feel envious that they had been so young when they were exposed to such great music. But now, I am still discovering great musicians and I am continually shaping who I am musically."
She’s now set her bags down in Camden, “I’ve been here for over a year and I love it. I met some wonderful people who took me in and became my friends, it surely is the people that make a city, and here I find many open and willing to embrace someone new into their lives. Perhaps because most of us came from somewhere else and London is our new home.” Ela is currently in the studio recording songs for her debut album. Watch this space for details of its release...
