Born in Toronto, Canada in 1986, Jonathan Daniel Kerr is widely regarded as one of Toronto’s greatest drummers. Music appreciation flourished in Jonathan’s family. Like many other gospel raised musicians, Jonathan was a eager student at the feet of the churches greatest musician. Kerr credits, Deshaun Jones as the person who initially inspired him to pursue music at the tender age of one, and Ron Thomas one of the most popular gospel drummer’s in the city of Toronto, as the person who continually pushed him beyond what he thought he was great.Jonathan Daniel Kerr was born to play the drums; of that there is no doubt. His timing, sense of rhythm and sheer ingeniousness have given him a unique style and sound, which is instantly recognizable, yet compatible with the many different styles of music he chooses to play.
An innovative, aggressive drummer, Jonathan Kerr embarked on his musical career at an early age, whether in front of the mirror or the TV he would be drumming along to any music he could. He showed affinity for the drums quickly — beginning with the pots and pans at the tender age of one, to a toy drum kit at age two, Jonathan was ready to show the church world what he was made of.In his early years on the Toronto scene, he could be found at the church that he grew up in playing for praise and worship service or the children’s choir any chance he got.Jonathan Kerr has collaborated with some major figures in gospel music. Some of the great talents he has worked with are Tamala Mann and David Mann of Meet the Brown’s a Tyler Perry Production, Gospel Praise and Worship Singer William Murphy, one of gospels greatest writers/producers Melvin Crispell and Toronto’s Chief Levite Pastor Richard J. Brown. Currently Jonathan plays for one of Toronto’s top choirs Cheryl James & The Voices of Worship who is in the process of recording their first CD, and plays for G.R.I.O.T a gospel band who travels all over the world and caters to all types of music i.e. Jazz, R&B, Latin. Blues and Reggae.He as had the opportunity to share the stage with gospel greats such as: Ricky Dillard, Fred Hammond, Kim Burrell, Kurt Karr, JJ Harriston, Youthful Praise, Dove/Stellar Nominee Londa Larmond, Canadian Urban Music Award Winner Patricia Shirley, and Tunesha Crispell.
